Well given the massive breach ANU had at the hands of the Chinese government....

Actually that incident is more or a hacking attack from the CCP (Chinese Government)

I've installed it and I have no concerns based on several reports I've read. One was from a technical guy who reverse engineered the app to demonstrate the app only did what the government said it did - so that was good enough for me.

BUT - even if you have some concerns I would strongly suggest that any potential reduced privacy on the part of an individual is far outweighed by the improved chance of liberty and economic recovery for us all. For the first time in many of our lives we are being asked to (potentially) put the wellbeing of the community ahead of our own sensitivities. I vote Yes.

I agree that the public well being is important and should be the first priority, but please kindly consider to those people who has trouble trusting government as part of their past to also look after themselves first ahead of others... I dont mean those who are just not trusting privacy, but for those whom had negative experiences from government - this is because by asking them to do such a thing may trigger a negative mental effect, which in some circumstances could lead to serious mental consequences

I don't have a particular concern about security of the data, my question is what will the Government do with the "close contacts" who are logged once they get a positive (ie, the people that have been near the virus-positive person and have been logged in their COVIDsafe app)?

There appears to be no limit to the requirements the Government can impose on those people.

I doubt Villawood, but more of home quarantine or hospital if needed... (Pure guess)

Fair question, to which my considered answer is "so what?" or, better "who cares?". Does the fact that you are caught on government CCTV every time you go in or near a government building, especially courts and police stations, stop you walking or driving there again? I doubt that material is ever deleted - just stored away for future use.

Serious proposal: Ask the same type of questions about every interaction you have with a government agency, physical or electronic, and see if the conclusion has stopped you doing it in the future because 'what if ... can I trust them?' Tax lodgement, PBS pharmaceutical use (yes, the government knows all about your health conditions from the taxpayer subsidised medicines you use ), passport application and use, postal use (yes, the government knows all about where your post office-delivered parcels come from; place and possibly merchant), kids school enrolment (even if private) ... need I go on?

Have you considered that if you developed Covid that others you had contact with during the infection period may like to know they need to be very watchful?

That seems pretty harsh. I for one value people’s opinions whether I agree with them or not, preferably politely put. And I don’t feel nervous or fatigued.

If you install and run the App and are diagnosed with COVID-19 you will be asked for your permission to have the App data uploaded.
If you consent this allows the Doctors and Nurses and others in the relevant State Public Health services to have mobile telephone numbers of people they should contact to inform them that they have been in close contact with a patient who has COVID-19 and should attend a test centre if deemed necessary for testing.

It’s called contact tracing, it’s infinitely easier, quicker and more reliable if it doesn’t rely on the memory of the patient to detail every random person they were beside at work, school or Westfield
If it is taken up and successful it will allow us to contact trace and prevent widespread community transmission, with the ultimate goal of getting the country (and the footy) up and running again.
Collectively the Australian public as a whole has done a massive effort to get us where we are now.
If we can replicate that effort with this App we will smash it out of the park.

I have two motivations.

One for my adult children. And that is they can have a more positive outlook on their current employment situation. Covid has left a financial mess.

Second. Less important. I want to have the choice to travel. Australia will do for the next 18 months.

My hopes? That a vaccine will be found in next few months and easily produced and distributed.
