Are you in the Know?? Email

Just received my email today. For a "red" member, there is less incentive to fly DJ, so I will be putting more of my business with QF, even if it costs a bit more.

DJ is a poor excuse for an airline, IMHO.

So you're saying that by introducing status levels and improving their program, they are now lesser of an airline? Logical...

I don't understand why there is less incentive if you are a red member?

I received my Silver membership pack yesterday and a "welcome" email overnight. I'm just shy of reaching Gold level but it won't take long to achieve.

Meanwhile I've received an email from QF offering 25 additional SC's next time I fly to "encourage" me to retain Gold. I guess they can see that I might not make it by November now. I haven't done much international flying in the past 12 months so there is little reason to try to keep it. So I've decided to let it lapse.

Velocity all the way for me now! :D

Recognising that you're entitled to them, but given the opinions you've shared with us on AFF, I'm surprised you put any of your business with DJ!

I can see your point - the drop in earn rate for Red members (in the fine tradition of enhancements, that other FF programs are not exactly immune to), is a disincentive for those who probably wouldn't make it to the next level. How much of a discincentive will depend on the individual. But generally, I think the program is better off for having status.

There's 18% less incentive as the earn rate drops from 6 to 5 VP's per AUD after 23rd September for Red members.

I wish DJ didn't have to copy QF on everything, seems they have learned how to 'enhance' ahem... :(

But I understand from a business POV they want to focus on the more loyal customers at the expense of the more frivilous / less travelled.

Thats what most airlines decide except the ULCC / LCC and i don't really class DJ as much of an LCC any more.

Of course even if most of my travel is discount Y it still pays the bills and fills a seat with some profit. What is more important me with 20+ international trips this year or somebody who flys once every couple of years on an even cheaper discount that me ?

I am however afraid anything like this that DJ do will not get me to fly them any more, given most people will be loyal to one alliance and only user other when price is much better.

As of now, I have been able to use the EXPRESS line twice since introduction, and all I can say is BEAUTY... recognition in such a small way of regular fliers is great. The "express" line at Qantas is probably as long as the general DJ line these days anyway.

I have completed over 40 flights this year, 15 wth QF and 25 with DJ. Having the benefit of using both airlines so frequently, and able to compare service levels offered on both on the major Oz routes, DJ with the introduction of the status levels has now been able to secure 100% of my business.

TGIF... time for a drink!!! Home at last.

upon reflection of my staus It may not be the good start I thought I had.

I will revert back to red by November even though I've been a member since 2005 and have 46k points unless I earn 20k point from now until Nov.

Member since Nov 2005
Review Date Nov 07
Benefits exp Jan 08

There is no way I will earn that many points to stay silver as I'm flying out of the country for 2 months next.

So Looks like I will be in the Red club shortly.

I'm a little dissappointed I guess considerig the loyalty since 2005 I've given them.

Just thinking about it if my joining date was say July then I'm assuming that my review date would of been July 08 giving me 1 year on the current status? That doesnt appear to be a fair way to kick of the program if thats the case.

:(

I too joined when the program began (Nov 05) and it is a shame if you're in that situation.

Keep in mind though that, no matter when the new status' would have come in, this would have happened to some people. The only fair way to do it is to have some people, for want of a better term, 'take one for the team'.

It could be worse. Your review date could be Sep or Oct 07.

The red cards themself are worth little more than symbolic value so, for that reason, I'd say its pretty low on the list of priorities to have the old cards replaced by new ones.
