Although the capacity of our basket was 16, we only had 11, which made it very comfortable. Scenery was superb.

Fantastic photos!!!!
Just beautiful, please pass on my compliments to Mr FM.
Loving your trip report.

My hubby is a camera enthusiast, so I google black rapid camera straps, there are so many and they start at $79 at Harvey Norman for the Metro.
Any particular recommendation from Mr FM?

( OT - Hey Flying Mermaid. Back to picture management. I've just tried out the bluetooth ravpower device and quickly transferred 200 photos from the SD to my iphone. You can also manage the photos on the sd card - ie delete and also send the photos to any bluetooth device or laptop. Might be a thought so no need for the PC if using just for photo backup? This file transfer and posting to the internet is a major reason why I switched to my phone. Now I can start using the camera again)

I googled those straps too. There is of course also a youtube about them.

I have the metro but having looked at the sport I think it might stop the padding from sliding off your shoulder a bit better.

On storage - I shoot in RAW so my images are quite large so I backup to an external hard drive because I will have several hundred gigabytes of photos by the end of a trip. I was doing this with a tablet but had to transfer from the camera to tablet then to hard drive. my main reason for a laptop is because I edit my photos as I am travelling. tablets are tedious for this. I use a MacBook Pro but I think the Microsoft Surface 3 Pro could be a good option.

Wow. That is a lot of photos! I know RAW files are larger but even so..
Re the editing - how much do you do? I usually only crop or adjust lighting. That must be overwhelming almost. Do you do anything special with your pictures? I usually make hardcover coffee table books using momento.

After the balloon ride Mike Green and his wife drove us back to Uchisar. We were the only ones from there and it saved us having to sit in the bus while all the other people were dropped at hotels in Goreme. Ww really appreciated that.

We staggered into breakfast 1/2 hour early but people were kind and allowed us to eat while they prepared around us.

I the realised I had made a serious planing error by booking a 3 day private tour starting that day - I really just wanted to go to sleep.

However our guide said he would rearrange things to give us an easy first day, so off we went to the Open air museum in Goreme - basically an old Monastery. The Dark Church has had a lot of restoration done of the frescoes, but no photos allowed unfortunately

The last photo is of the Monk's refractory - middle the table and seating around it. They would have had animal skins to sit on, but still very Spartan.

he is out photographing while I have some R&R. I know he took 10,000 photos in Africa last year......He tends to discard ones he doesn't feel are any good once he gets back to Australia. I will get him to comment when he gets back.

Pushka - yes I shoot about 1000 photos a week (a bit excessive but digital storage is cheap ;) ) While travelling I usually only use Lightroom edits and crops. I have a set of presets that do 85% of the work. I have Photoshop with me but usually wait 'till I get home to do a Photoshop finish to some of the photos. I only put photos on Facebook and 500px and sometimes on Flickr. I don't print any - maybe one day when I am more happy with my photos.

Mr FM - I can imagine a wall of your home being decorated with a collage of various sized prints of your travels. It would look fabulous.

Can't believe you haven't printed any as you not happy with your work, it is absolutely great, some of those shots are fantastic, don't undersell yourself you do a great job. Can't wait to see more.

Thanks guys - will tell him. Problem is he hangs around on 500px and there are some seriously good photographers there (or so he tells me!)

Just read this thread from page 1. What a fantastic read. Thanks for sharing and the beautiful pictures. Venice was our favorite place when we did our Europe trip in 2013. And was where I got my partner her "promise" ring from Cartier so that'll live in our memories for a long time.

After the Open air museum it was a quick trip to Devrent's animal shaped rock formations. This was 1 May and a public holiday, so there were large numbers of Turkish people having a long weekend and doing some touring of their own. The girls seemed to particularly like us and were quite eager to help me up and down climbs and have their photos taken with us. I haven't felt like I was a tourist attraction since we were in the Crimea in 1999!

After climbing around the Rock formations for some time we headed to Avanos for lunch (mixed mezze plate shown).

We then visited the pottery museum which is attached to a modern pottery workshop. There was a bit of a push to sell, but very polite and no problem with not purchasing. The pottery was actually quite beautiful, but I am more of a glass/crystal person.

after we were dropped back at our apartment, we headed to the square to the Centre Cafe for a quick plate of lamb and artichokes and then we were asleep by 7:30.
