Just went into Fight Centre, they said that VS removed this promo at 1AM this morning, without telling anyone. The people at Fight Centre back office only realised when they started investigating .....

So I guess I'm too late?

Simon was a great help but sadly nothing available for my dates, or anything near them :(

Both Ozbargain threads stated the fare was either to 'book by May 19' or 'offer expires on 20 May' (Flight Centre's deal thread was the one stated as 19 May). So hard to see how Flight Centre was caught out unaware of the expiry!

It was filed in the GDS as expiring 20 MAY 2017. VA have also pulled the longer more expensive sale fare that was meant to end 15 JUN 2017.

Sensational deal, got Mum on to it and she was lucky to get MEL-HKG-LHR-LAX-MEL. Just have to pick up a PER-MEL-PER pair and some flights to Athens from London. Of course I told her to fly in late August as she is the definition of flexible. But it would seem my well travelled advice went unheeded and she will be joining the masses in European summer holiday mode in late July. Who doesn't like giving Ryanair $750

They would have had a serious injection of cash with that sale.

Slightly OT but yes, the number of promotions lately have piqued my curiousity given the time of year.

The old saying is if it sounds too good to be true ........ I've been an agent for over 40 years and I've not struck this deal. It's like seeing a new Porsche on sale for $24990. Considering the lead in fare for MEL/HKG/MEL on VA is $2959.65 I cannot see them having a round world for $3299. By all means buy the offer if you can get it, but don't go screaming to Fair Trading if it all falls apart somewhere. Airlines don't put out super specials 'on the quiet'. They scream it across TV and radio to get maximum exposure.

The deals matches the published (and advertised) premium economy fare, which is what my agent sent back to me when I asked them to book this deal. So maybe there was an error or something there?

But... I can understand how VA could be looking for a quick cash injection... and selling thousands of seats at $3000 a pop would bring serious income.

If if escape and flight centre offered these fares, and it was published in the media, I'm not sure why fair trading would be out of the question? Perhaps the airline could argue a mistake, but it's not quite as simple as that. I don't think any pax genuinely thought it was a mistake... this was a highly restricted fare.

It was in the GDS but is finished now. Plated to VA and I class availability on both VA and VS.

Plated to VA, I class on VA but had to be Z class on VS.

I watched the Z class availability on LAX <-> LHR and LHR <-> HKG on VS in the sale period disappear very very quickly. VA is single handedly responsible for wiping out Z class in that date range on those routes.

I don't think it's error, if Fight Centre advertised it.

I don't think anyone is screaming Fair Trading here either.
Considering I just selected seats for my mother, and its ticketed in I on VA and Z on VS, there is no error here.

I agree there's no error here. But seat selection by itself doesn't necessarily mean there is no error. Plenty of mistake fares in the past people have had ticket numbers, been able to select seats, order special meals. The airlines still cancelled as it was an error.

Yes, but throw on top the advertising from FC group for days on end, and I'm very comfortable. I'm sure they would have had a phone call rather promptly (at least within a day) from VA had something actually been incorrect. It's not like the fare came from some obscure OTA in South America. The fare was also constructed with a very restrictive sale, ticketing, metal and routing window.

We can only suspect, but I imagine the mountains of money that will roll in to VA HQ prior to June 30 for products provided post July 1 means that the sale had the desired effect.

This would have been approx $3700+?

$3890.

I had to wait for it to be priced over the weekend, paid and ticketed yesterday (Monday). As others have said it got pulled over the weekend, but they managed to hold mine for one business day luckily. I was earlier advised that sale would run until June 15.

I can categorically state that they most certainly *do* put out super specials on the quiet, generally in conjunction with a preferred trade partner as has happened here.
