Article: Europe Doesn’t Recognise Australian Vaccination Certificates

There is also a Germany-specific app called Luca: luca - Apps on Google Play

I’m on iPhone not Android, it‘s in the Australian iOS App Store but I don’t know about the Android one, but if you’re on Android try that link and see.

If you can use it, it’ll get you into anywhere in Germany.

Side note: at Toulouse (France) the customs official didn’t scan the code or enter it, didn’t look at the test result printout I had ready, just glanced at the paper certificate and waved me on. I was surprised but didn’t argue (it was Christmas Day mind, that may have had something to do with it :).
another user confirmed below that can download Luca for Android

Luca is definitely available in the aussie google app store

It comes electronically (via email and into the app as well if you want to install that). You can scan the QR code from the email certificate into some other countries apps (e.g. France) although I don’t think it’s necessary.

The expiry listed on it is one year after the date of your most recent shot. But it’s caveated as being the expiry date for the pass ‘in Switzerland’. I think it might be up to other countries how long they accept the certificates to last (I think the EU standard is currently nine months).
thanks for the update. Lets hope Australia agrees to become part of the EU system so our stuff will be recognised

My Amex concierge tells me some AU travellers are getting Swiss Covid Certificates which are then recognised when entering EU countries where AU certificates may not be recognised. There is a requirement to show proof of your Swiss accommodation booking when applying but this can be cancelled after the certificate is issued. Anyway, I've applied for the Swiss certificate so I'll see how I go. Anyone heard of this workaround? I'm guessing testing requirements remain but it might be worth it to smooth the way when entering EU countries who may hesitate on the AU certificate. I'm planning to fly to UK in March (2022), then drive to France, Switzerland, and Italy and back to the UK before flying home. I'll share my experiences - if I get to go at all.

Seems you may have missed your flight...

Yes I've applied for Swiss certificates for myself twice, they work in other EU countries without a problem.

Having just returned from 6 weeks in Netherlands, France and Belgium, I was surprised that my AU International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate QR Code was not recognised (except when checking in for airline flights) in European countries. However, in practical terms this did not seem to be a big deal - all venues accepted visual proof of my certificate which contains passport number and vaccination details. In Belgium, I was able to use these details also to generate for free a QR Code on the Belgium Covid app. In France, the Belgian code was not recognised, and yes, you can obtain a QR code for the French Pass Sanitaire at selected pharmacies, but it is a blatant ripoff at Euro36 - I refused to obtain, but in practice showing visual proof of the AU international certificate was all that was required during my two weeks in Paris. A pity our Australian Government has (once again) let us down in not ensuring the AU International Certificate is compatible with Europe’s standard.
I arrived in France (CDG) 28th December. No additional check on arrival. Aus International Vaccination Certificate accepted. Obtained Pass Sanitaire in the Village I live here, €21. Chemist was surprised I had to get one per France Website. Not problems otherwise but PCR RAT tests also cost. Bill

@Princess Fiona reported using the Swiss certificate for a European visit recently, in another thread. Can’t find it now, sorry.

Thanks. Got the Swiss certificate now. All set to tackle the next obstacle.

Good work. I would still take the Aust one as well though, as back up. People have been using the Swiss one for venues once they have successfully entered a country, which is a different thing from your question about 'when entering' a country.

All this detail is earlier on in this same thread.
Aus certificate to enter the country then obtain ( if not prior) an EU approved one.

My partner and I are booked to spend a week in Rome early March but are seriously considering changing our plans because of what appear to be insurmountable hurdles getting an Italian "super green pass" even though there were indications the Australian vaccination certificate would be accepted as an equivalent. We are on a RTW ticket to Rome via Frankurt in each direction. We are wondering if it will be possible to drop going to Rome and stay in Germany instead. What are the current restrictions/conditions in Germany for vaccinated Australians. We are both active seniors and until the pandemic seasoned travellers. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just get the Swiss Certificate and keep your plans.
$40 a head, apply online and you will have it before you leave. Gets emailed in at most a few days. Make a refundable hotel booking online with both you and your partner’s names on it. Take screenshots and use for your application.

Can use it anywhere in Europe including Rome and Frankfurt.

Swiss Covid Certificate

EDIT : If you want to message me, I’d be happy to help you further with this.
I just came back from a holiday in Italy with my family and we applied for and used these certificates. It was very straightforward to holiday there.

Thant you Princess Fiona; much relieved. It will work in Italy under the "Super Green Pass" rules?

All it will show me is a pop up and when I refuse to enter my email address, it won't show me anything else 🙁

This is the workaround mentioned in post 1 of this thread :) Now potentially with a ‘free’ option if applying with an address in the Geneva canton.
