Article: Great Value Round-the-World Tickets with Finnair & Lufthansa

As posted here, you can now book a QR-operated flight from Australia to Doha connecting to a Finnair flight from Doha to Europe as part of the Finnair deal.

Hmmm... Oz to Europe: 1) AY fares, flying QSuites on a fantastic airline 1/2 way, then another great service airline OR 2) the stratospheric fares on a certain other OneWorld airline for the service on that other OneWorld airline ?

.
🤔

Can anyone tell me what booking classes I need to look for on QF/LH etc to book this fare. I am keen to do my homework before I approach a TA.

This might be a bit outdated, but the product it describes seems similar to what is described in the OP/article: https://www.lufthansaexperts.com/sh...c/mcms/folder_806/folder_6108/file_146276.pdf

It suggests that P/Z/D/C/J are possible, with the price just increasing.
For those more experienced in this, I'm happy to remove if I'm barking up the wrong tree and misleading everyone 🤣

Which class of travel?

If business class, you need I on QF, P on LH/LX/OS, D on SQ and/or P on UA to get the lowest prices.

Does anyone know if a Finnair 'RTW' fare can include South America? I suspect not, but I see AY code-shares on LATAM MAD-SCL and its own metal HEL-MAD of course.

I'm hoping to do SYD-TYO(stop) - xHEL - CPH (stop, 'turn around') - xHEL - ??? - SCL (stop) - SYD

Looking at RAT, SthAm isn’t listed but pretty sure that it used to be possible but from memory you could take QF/LA to SCL but then needed to get to the US (eg MIA) to pickup AY to HEL or v.v.

I have taken 4 RTWs with Finnair in the last 10 years and was happy with them.
I am trying to find a good RTW in business which offers QFF points mainly to cover 2 meets in the USA september 2023. QF fares are looking like 20K which is a bit beyond my reach .
I have started looking at RTWs on several sites but not finding much information - the best i am getting is "give us details and we'll get back to you ", That is not the way i do it - i like to plan ahead and look for opportunities - eg if i had a RTW, I could go to another conference in Europe in September.
I am getting the impression that I up for $12,000 at the least .
Also, I see there are Oneworld rtws like a round the pacific which could also search - how can i find more info about them in particular prices?
many thanks.

Yes you can. SCL only.

They're too complex for websites to do properly/do well, that's why it's all submit an enquiry.

I was able to snare a reasonable deal with a Lufthansa RTW in business class for end March travel this year.
The fare was in the early 8,000 AUD.
I needed to go to Miami for a conference and then to Munich for a meeting .
This fare involved United out of / returning to Sydney . I still have residual Mileage Plus points from past travels so I had hoped to use them to upgrade the United legs but they no longer have F cabins!
It was hard to get a seats to return via Asia so I am going back via LAX.( I'm guessing that the usual change over points of Tokyo and Hong Kong are not working well yet - there are not many seats available in the correct premium fare classes).
I have travelled on Finnair RTWs in the past for similar fares but those days are gone - Finnair are incredible expensive now and involve tight connections at some change points .

Did you just book that recently? Pretty good that close to travel given current prices!

RE Asia connections, I would have thought LH would pick up Thai or SQ via BKK/SIN. Last time I did LH RTW, I was fortunate to get QF SYD-LAX, US Airways across the US and QF SIN-SYD. LH for Canada to Euro and onto SIN. LH A380 J was pretty coughpy back then...

Booked at the very end of November 2022.
I agree that LH business class was coughpy when I last flew it just prior to Covid.
That said, from what I have read, United's Polaris was really outstanding when it started but has declined in terms of soft product though the seats are said to be great.

Who did you book that through? Need something for J to Europe in April and wondering if a RTW offers value.

Looks like the RTW Business class deals are over?

Depends what you call a deal. At 5-6k? Hell no - that's long gone and hasn't been seen since 2019 basically.

LH Group still offer some fantastic value. AY however is effectively dead. They have priced themselves out of the market for RTW.

I saw a good deal thru Roundabout Travel but eventually got Flight Centre to book it .

So did our family friends for September this year. Booked RTW trip for around $7024 each using Qantas and Swiss in Business. They were happy and a good deal considering current pricing.
