Article: Major Qantas Domestic Catering Problems

In the VA Mel lounge as we speak. Only alcoholic beverages available are beer and sparkling wine, first world problems! Be interesting to see what catering we get in J Mel to Adl.

Why’s that? It was delicious if you were implying it looks bad.
That's good then if it tasted better than it looked. I duuno, these so called 'business class' meals are economy class standard from 5 years back. I just expect more.

Looked OK to me, except the green veg which was a bit off-putting...
Mushy peas. I spread them over my sourdough - quite tasty.

Pretty good for a flight that spends less than an hour in the air. Bit of a novelty to have J on this route.

If there’s one thing you can count on with QF, there will always be booze if nothing else. Which is smart, booze is a cheap way to make people happy.

I had 4 G&Ts and 4 rum & cokes in the lounge tonight, there wasn’t much to eat (apart from when I ventured into the QP as detailed above).

You have to load up in the lounge as they are still too cheap to serve spirits on the flight 🤣
It’s stupid, but it can’t be about money. The wine is more expensive per drink compared to the spirits.

Either way I hope it ends soon.

Yeah it’s bizarre. The staff are great though and I feel sorry for them. I will just make do with some wine until they return

Someone in another forum reported that after complaining to the Airline Customer Advocate, Qantas agreed to give them 3,000 points for not being served a business class meal. They mentioned they had to fight long and hard for it. Good luck.
I've lodged my complaint via the online form. My hopes are not high (lol).

While I was at it, I lodged a complaint that a refund from more than 8 weeks ago hasn't been received either.... (again, lol)

Hate to interrupt the generic ranting, but back to the topic of catering…

Offering in the BNE J lounge is sub par this afternoon. Only hot option is a vegetable curry with rice. There was soup but they ran out. They have some nibblies (olives, coughtail onions, gerkins etc) and the standard toastie bar.

I ventured out into the QP (leaving my luggage in the J Lounge) to see what they had, and they had party pies and chicken wings! I brought a plate back, and I think I saw a look of shame in the eyes of the lounge attendant I showed my WP card to for re-entry.
Yeah, I made the mistake of guesting someone else into the Qantas BNE Domestic J lounge a few weeks ago in the evening, and the food situation then was just as dire, we ended up leaving the lounge to get something to eat from outside the lounge. I didn't even think of checking the normal QP for food as I would have just assumed that there would have been nothing there! Next time I will know to check. :)

Oh man I was in the BNE J lounge on Saturday afternoon and I should've done this!

Just flew in business from Adelaide to Brisbane and only offer was some of those cheap Asian bar snacks. Was told by the csm that no meals were loaded for business. Not acceptable in my books.

I would like to contact qantas to ask for compensation. If I bought economy and upgraded to business I’d have paid 19,000 points to do so. In my view that’s all I received as I already had lounge access and the onboard experience was totally economy in nature.

Has anyone had any luck with such a claim and know the best method / email address to lodge it? Should I pair back my request for 19,000 points?

I guess you could sue?

So with what people are reporting about the QF BNE dom J lounge, does that mean this statement I read on the Qantas website this morning is incorrect about BNE?

Focusing on barista made coffee, generous buffets, healthy options and a unique offering in each of the major ports. From the ‘Pizza Bar’ in Perth to the ‘Cantina’ in Brisbane and the ‘Spice Bar’ in Melbourne

It's definitely incorrect about the Spice Bar in MEL. It was empty when I was there on Easter Sunday.

I mean, god forbid anyone would want to challenge QF for what is potentially misleading and deceptive conduct under the Australian Consumer Law Schedule 2 clause 18(1).

BNE J lounge breakfast was normal IMO this morning with one exception. No pancake machine.

It was broadly consistent with pre-covid: Usual cereal, toast etc, plus chicken sausages, scrambled eggs, and boiled eggs.

But does the Cantina operate in BNE still? I wouldn't really expect it at breakfast time I guess, but later in the day?

Nothing unique in SYD or CBR as far as I've ever noticed. Then again SYD is long overdue for a refurb.
