Yes it is possible. Availability of rewards seats on DOH-ADL flight is far better than DOH-MEL flight.

Ah damn, yeah I will be travelling with checked bags after spending a month in europe thats all.
I actually spoke to Qatar's service desk about this and they said I could ask the baggage services to remove my bags in melbourne from the aeroplane.. seems risky/not possible though?

Here is my dilemma: should I fly FRA-BKK-MEL biz award on TG (then onward to SYD on a different ticket) or use the QR biz award and do this strange MEL-ADL hop, then onward to SYD?
I haven't flown TG since before the pandemic, and I hear that it can be a disappointing experience (broken seats, involuntary downgrades, etc.). Is TG bad enough to make the QR ADL hop a better option?

I'd take Qatar Qsuites over Thai Business any day of the week, but as you said you are adding in an extra stop and a 5 hour layover in the early am when no lounges are open so it is up to you.

Well, thanks for the advice. Still undecided, but I wonder if anyone has ever been successful asking QR at checkin to tag luggage to MEL instead of ADL? Highly irregular, I'd imagine, and unfortunately, for this upcoming trip we'll need at least 1 piece of checked luggage.

Unless you say your are sick in Melbourne and can't continue through to Adelaide and they pull your bag your bag would be otherwise checked through to Adelaide.

Ive just booked my first Business Classic Qsuite.I will go Adelaide -Melbourne -Doha with a 8 hour stop Al Mourjan Business Lounge before next 5 hour flight. I didn't opp for paying for seat preference. I don't expect there is a bad Qsuite ? Do you get a meal Adelaide -Melbourne ? Will I get access to a Business Lounge in Melbourne for the 90 min stop? Coming back will be direct Doha -Adelaide economy class unless I get a texted cheap upgrade offer from Qatar.

No, but rear facing on the sides has the seat next to the window and the bench next to the aisle which gives more privacy. I think they are odd-numbered rows. You'll love any seat in QSuites

I'm doing that flight in a few months, as far as DOH, but using QR Avios, not QFF points. You'll definitely get the QF J lounge in MEL.

How far off is your flight? If more than 6 months, don't be surprised if some scheduling changes occur.

I wonder if that is a new "enhancement" because I certainly was able to choose our seats on two flights last year on a QF redemption ticket in QR suites without addition charge (I don't have status on either airline but do have QC)

Was this a Business "Lite" fare? That would explain the paid seat selection.
