Big time. People are entering the company with as little as 500hrs from what I’ve heard.

I’ve even heard of guys and gals not even turning up for the interview and getting a better job elsewhere (mainly the US).

There are a few retirements coming up and people still leaving the airline for greener pastures.

The training requirements are getting projected so far in advance at the moment, I’d say if you’ve got a pulse then you’re pretty much guaranteed a job at the moment.

I would second this opinion 100%.

On the US side of things it appears simply insane. I don’t envy the training departments. I saw a 25 year old 767 Delta captain the other day doing the rounds on social media.

Is it reach on for touch down/landing after the countdown, or is it the dirty word.
Sorry, don't want to get banned fir saying the similar to tat swear word starting with r.

500 hours doesn’t seem like much.
There are hours, and then there's hours.

It can be easily argued that 500 hours in the RHS of an airliner is almost worthless, as there's possibly very little flying, and no decision making, in that period. On the other hand, 500 hours in a Hornet, is quite a lot. And there's every shade in between.

I had:
1200 hours when I joined QF (split over CT4, Macchi, A4)
3090 when I was promoted to FO
5400 when I got a 767 command
12900 when I got 744 command
16200 for the 380 command

Roughly 22,000 as a pilot, and another 1,000 as an observer/navigator.
I had an interesting experience on Friday night.

Met someone who is current on:
Tiger Moth
PC-21 &
F35.

VERY unusual extremes to be current on all at once.
A FAC? Or someone on FIC? Was that the Tiger at Pt Cook?
Almost. … I last flew one in about 1979.
Close enough. Procedures are unlikely to have changed.

About 5,000 more than I have.
He owns the Tiger and flies at 1FTS/CFS
I am tempted to go for a ride with him. There is a Tiger based at Rosedale.
