ATO Credit Card Points Summary

You would find it hard to believe that I was using 3 different Visa cards last night to pay some ATO.
The changed cap on Bankwest is now 250,000 I believe and the earn rate has dropped to 0.75 points per dollar. This means the card is good for 333,333 of ATO now to get to the maximum capping of points. If you sign on for a new card you get 50,000 points that comes off meaning only 266,666 of ATO will earn points at 0.75 rate.
Thanks andye for that funny article on what not to put on a credit card.

cove have you considered ringing up Bankwest and asking to be upgraded to the Black version of the card? 1:1 and no points cap. It is invite only so they might say no, but it can't hurt to ask.

I guess I had better call Mrscove's private banker to see if I can get a Bankwest invitation.
Mrscove was quite chuffed at having double my new limit at ANZ Black seeing Citibank is the reverse.
I don't usually use any work time to pay the business BAS but we are leaving Friday so I chose the easy way and paid it early on Westpac. I have dumped my girlfriend at the ATO in favour of Government Easy Pay to get emailed receipts.

Breaking news. Cove has dumped his ATO girlfriend. And in other news a mysterious user has caused such a surge in Optus smart pay usage that the website has frozen and new servers will be required by this little known government run website:)

The receipt numbers for one ATO payment which is actually two payments were 30 apart so lots of people are using Government Easy Pay. I switched to get the emailed receipts.
No more reassuring voice from my ATO girlfriend is a shame seeing my Svetlana from Russia has been two timing me.

Hi

I'm looking at swapping my CBA plat to the ANZ cards, and was wondering if there's any difference between the ANZ Platinum and Black cards?
I had a look and both Amex cards earn 3pt/$ but the Visa version earn 1.5pt/$ and 2pt/$, respetively. Otherwise transfer rates to KF (1pt per $ spend) and VA (1.5pt per $ spend) etc are the same for both cards if I'm not mistaken?

Going by these rates, and assuming what I have said is correct, I assume it would be in my best interest to transfer to VA then transfer to KF, ending up with 1.11KF per $ spend on Amex (both Platinum and Black cards)?

Only other difference I can see is the Annual fee for Plat & Black as $149 and $375, respectively, and also a 10k pt bonus after $50k spend on the Black? Is the black worth the extra fee? or just apply for the platinum?

This thread is ridiculous, and is not a summary, and is not being actively moderated. It should be merged with the existing discussion thread. Mods?

IIRC the Plat is capped at $6k / month ... Black is beautiful!

Ahhh, it says, when comparing both cards, on the ANZ site that both are uncapped. I might just try with the Black since you get the extra 25k bonus points.

Agreed. An updated summary of the situation would be a big help - it's *only* 21 pages, but trying to decipher what is now the best option is not easy.

Well, the idea of having a summary/wiki on what is and what is not accepted for ATO points has been discussed many times. However, the idea has been dismissed based on the consensus that non-regulars to this thread should not be spoon fed this info and made to look/search through the thread. The other reason was to not escalate the "enhancement' of the current cards.

CFWM Of course it is unusual to have two threads on ATO subject but just remember it is really a good game we play in between everything else.
It is almost goodbye to Commonwealth Bank with ATO so I you have one of their cards that earns points go early and hard.

Had HSBC card declined by ato when tried to pay last week. Have always used it and never had any problems. Definitely had Enough credit.
Used anz and accepted no problems. Defiantly time to get rid of HSBC now the earn rate has dropped.
