Mods: why are there two threads on the same topic?

Because one thread got too long and people were too busy/lazy to sift the information. So the same questions kept being asked over and over. So a new thread was started so that this wouldn't happen.....no wait :)

excuse the initial typo...I'm booking some flights to LHR on Etihad using Velocity points, multitasking :)

The principle was fine, however this has (de)generated into yet another discussion thread on the same topic, and should be merged IMHO.

This would be a good thread if it was locked and the first post listed all 'ATO safe' cards and was periodically updated by a mod. If not that, it was always going to descend into a duplicate of the main thread. Would be good to kill this 'branch' off and merge it with the 'trunk'.

yes even with a shortened thread people remain too busy/lazy to read the already available information. I think there is a common thread there (pun intended)

A subforum that stupid questioner get banned from would be handy :P

I try and be as patient as some others are*, but I cannot be, so I generally stay away. Most of my posts would be something like : "refer back ten posts" or "have you read ANY of this thread?"

*not having a go. You are doing a good job. It's just one I cannot do :)

As the days tick by it is almost BankWest CC time. It takes 5 years to get a million QF points so I realize we should have 4 cards instead of just one in our family. Being capped out for many months is not ideal.
Newk have a look at raise.com and giftcardgranny.com if you are wanting to buy something in the U.S. from a retailer. It will lessen the hurt of the Aussie dollar slumping to its real worth.

Although a wiki type summary would save people trawling through hundreds of posts, I personally wouldn't favour it as I think it would accelerate the decline of points opportunities. Two clicks to all the info would be too easy for the industry and the ozbargain-type sites. The rewards are great and well worth the effort of some study IMO

IMHO, if people are too lazy to read the thread(s), they don't deserve the rewards.

My request for merging stands, especially as this thread already has 200 posts. Summary my hat.

Yes, they don't deserve it. They need to do some sort of hard work researching the best cards for them, not having it spoon fed to them. Like most forums and regulars of every forum would point out, there is a search button.

And yes, both threads should be merged to one or one of them locked.

From November... it looks like CBA (personal cards) are no longer an option to earn points on ATO spend... noticed this on my Platinum Card Statement issued a couple of days ago...

So, from the big ones, it's down to ANZ (full points), Westpac Altitude Amex at half points and the can't-get-a-new-one Westpac KrisFlyer Amex at somewhere in between?

Had a feeling this was coming and have been hammering the ANZ AMEX Rewards

Krysflyer card gets 1.25 SQ points, some would say 1.25 SQ points is better than 1.5 QF points (myself included)

You would find it hard to believe that I was using 3 different Visa cards last night to pay some ATO.
The changed cap on Bankwest is now 250,000 I believe and the earn rate has dropped to 0.75 points per dollar. This means the card is good for 333,333 of ATO now to get to the maximum capping of points. If you sign on for a new card you get 50,000 points that comes off meaning only 266,666 of ATO will earn points at 0.75 rate.
Thanks andye for that funny article on what not to put on a credit card.
