ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I think there is a summary not too far back.
"Government charges" is a catch all that was to maybe cover the taxes that used to be levied on bank accounts. If you explore the thread you may find that it might not cover ATO.
I suggest you read the thread sorry. If you start from here and work back you will SOON find the answers to all your questions and more.

Not ATO but on a similar theme, is anyone managing to pay super by CC? Specifically SunSuper for me. I get a message saying 'This biller does not accept BPAY payments using Visa when I try and BPay via CC. Does anyone have a cunning work around?

There's usually a block on BPAY from a credit product to another financial institution.

How do you pay child support by CC? I can only find a BPAY option.
Someone needs to find/make a superannuation clearing house that takes CCs.

I don't follow?

If PayPal were available then CC can be used. The obvious problem of course is ..... there is no PayPal facility as such to my knowledge unfortunately .......

Oh right. Yes. Child support via PayPal, now that would be interesting :P

I figured wiser heads would have already tried it. Such a shame to shift that much cash and not earn points on it. =(

In other news I'm considering the best way to earn non QF points on my next tax bill. However the ATO earn rates for non QF aren't spectacular. A look at the ATO indicates you can pay tax by EFTPOS at the post office. I'm wondering if anyone has tried stopping at westfield before doing this?

I'm thinking I want to earn points that can be transferred to SPG (and onwards to AA). What's the prevailing wisdom on the best non QF earn?

1.5ppd (effective earn) on a Westpac Altitude Black Amex isn't appealing ? To any of MH, CX, SQ, VA.

I don't think there are any options left to earn SPG points [edit: at decent earn rates] on ATO payments now that Amex-Amexes [edit: only earn 0.5ppd for ATO]. At least not without transferring via an intermediate program, which will mean abysmal earn rates.

AMex Amex's do still earn in general for ATO - but at only ½point per $.

So not worth it with ~1.5% fee making each point cost ~3¢. EDR gets those points (QFF) @~½¢ each.

You can only use Westfield at the post office for a purchase, not a payment :(

Oh I am sorry I meant the Qantas woolies credit card.... When did it stop earning?

It is still earning for me including Feb 28th. In fact the only things which I have put on it for the past year, are PERSONAL PAYGs. No problems.
Same applies for Jetstar MC, although I have put a few JS flights on it. ( Not for me, of course!!)

That doesn't sound too bad at all. Double points on a near 6 figure bill coming up soon sounds fun too.

Aye, perfect time to get one of these cards. Even without the double points, it's as good as it gets for ATO payments (assuming you're fine with the Amex surcharge).
