ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

whaven't had much success with the Citi dining rewards either.

Has anybody?

Two places across the road from my office happily provide the free bottle of wine. The thing is - it's actually had the opposite effect of making me go there less because if I do go there, I can't help myself and there goes the rest of my day's productivity.

WWEDR moves from HSBC to Macquarie on the back end this month. This concerns me as it is one of the only cards left at 1:1.

The PDS says we're ok for now... Let's see how long this lasts...

I used mine yesterday as 0.42% works a treat. I think the silver donut are running the WOW card on Monday. Now the serious bit is Altitude Black changing on November 9th so I plan to finish on November 6th to allow for processing delays.

I have read this whole thread, and now I am about to apply for CBA Diamond Awards Amex. As a final check that I have got it right - can someone confirm that ATO payments made using this card do get points that I can transfer to Qantas or Velocity please? Thank you, and thanks to all who contributed to this thread. Great advice (all 377 pages!)

Just caught up with this thread.

CBA are going to put the Diamond card under their Wealth Package from early December. That is, if you have Wealth Package, the card fee will be waived; if you apply beforehand you won't get a rebate of the fee from December. I've just delayed applying for same until December :) ; migrating from CBA Platinum, and allowing me to get rid of another card.

I think it's been on the wealth package (annual fee for discount on mortgage rate) for some time now. We've had it for about 3 years from memory.

Thanks. Hmmm that's interesting. My info was direct from my 'personal banker' chap who otherwise has been pretty good. Might have to investigate further, unless you can shed more light? I'd be a bit peeved if I was being 'managed'.

The last time I asked (2 years ago), it came with an annual fee - even for CBA mortgagee.

I had but then cancelled the CBA Plat as it was unused, esp. with the enhancement some time ago.

100% certain the fee would not be waived - I do remember that bit.

Dear All,

This is my first post.

I currently have a Westpac Earth Black which, as we all know, will no longer be as valuable to me on the 9th of November.
My primary goal is to collect QF points.
I have a high annual spend at the following.

ATO
SRO
Various Victorian Councils
A large number of water rates, electricity and gas bills.

I have gone through the terms and conditions and it seems both NAB and ANZ prohibit the use of their cards to pay the ATO to gain QF points.
I am looking for recommendations as to what cards I should get.

Does CBA offer a card that allows me to collect QF points for ATO payments?
Does the Citi Bank card allow me to earn points on SRO and council rates notices?

Regards,

Hello and welcome to AFF

may I ever so softly suggest that you work your way through this whole thread. Possible starting at this end.

And, maybe, just maybe after reading this thread you could reconsider your impression of the Anz and NAB t and C

Dear Newk,

Thank you for your warm welcome.
My intention in posting here is seek clarity as the thread has gone through multiple life cycles and deviations from the current topic which has left me seeking a straight forward answer.

As for the NAB and ANZ T & C, I am quite confident I have read them correctly; in fact, I quote.

Net Purchases means the total purchases less sales
credits (e.g. returns) and other adjustments on your
Card Account during a statement period, excluding:
• Cash advances (which include bills paid over the
counter at a bank, financial institution or post
office, the purchase of travellers cheques, and
balance transfer amounts you request transferred
from non-NAB credit card or store accounts);

• Government fees and charges;

Indeed.
Here's a hint: there are multiple discussions of what those T and C mean and their application to your question
Best I say no more and let you continue your education in peace away from a grumpy old man.

You will also find many similar posts from me (when you get to read the thread that is). EVERYTHING you want to know is contained within this thread. You may not trust or like this advice but you WILL be better educated and find out answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet if you put some effort in.

Yes, others may answer your questions directly but you will have learnt the bare minimum and you may never know what you missed out on.

Teach a man to fish and all that....

Enjoy

I have used NAB Qantas Platinum to get ATO points to QF - only $100,000 per monthly billing cycle though...

That $100,000 per month spend on NAB QP AMEX = 150,000 QFF points per month, so not too bad.

Hope this helps. Sorry I don't know about your last two questions. No doubt someone else will.

Hi AngusBurns,

Thanks very much for the info. I am curious as to when you used your NAB Amex to get the points. I am also so confused as that seems contrary to my reading of the T & C, what gives?

Oh and one last suggestion. PLEASE don't ring the bank to ask. Just read the thread. Believe what the nice man just said. Never learn to catch fish. Oh well. I'll really move on this time

• Government fees and charges;

I don't think tax is either a fee or a charge - it is a tax! :-)

Thank you so much for clarifying that. I made the assumption that they used the definition losely and anything to do with handing the government money they had put into that category.
Some months my spend is much higher than $100,000.00 - is the limit per person or per card or line of credit? Basically, shall I get a second card which would make me alright?
