ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

To London from Singapore one way in a Suite Saver is 91,375. There is no A380 out of Perth so a J Saver out to Singapore is an ok choice and is about 35,000. It would be Suites all the way out of Sydney or Melbourne.
I try not to get trapped in Singapore for longer than 4 hours or if it is way longer I go to stay at the Crowne Plaza for the night at Changi as I don't do humidity if I can help it.
There is a special tax going into the UK so the fees and charges to land at Heathrow are a bit more than CDG in Paris but I like getting picked up by our driver and heading out into bedlam ( London traffic most days).
Seeing we are in the ATO thread that would be about $83,000 on a Westpac Kris Flyer Platinum Amex card to the fiscal fiend which will cost 1.45% but earn 1.5 points per dollar.
I am just in the process of getting one of my sons enough points to do this type of run to either Los Angeles or London on one of his credit cards before November 9th when the Black Altitude card becomes unfit for purpose.

MEL is losing A380 service in a few days...so no more suites!

Surely you mean Saver F if possible!
Well of course you always book F Savers - but the question was if no Suites from MEL then do you need book separate J award MEL-SIN-MEL and another separate award R SIN-Europe-SIN - was that your query Prozac? So my answer was no you would book F Saver - with MEL-SIN / SIN-MEL legs on 773 with Std F fit out then 380 SIN-Europe-SIN in R - one F Saver award MEL-SIN-Europe / Europe-SIN-MEL.

Thanks Cruiser. Yes that's what I meant but not what I said. :) Booked as 2 separate bookings.

I have read this whole thread, and now I am about to apply for CBA Diamond Awards Amex. As a final check that I have got it right - can someone confirm that ATO payments made using this card do get points that I can transfer to Qantas or Velocity please? Thank you, and thanks to all who contributed to this thread. Great advice (all 377 pages!)

I don't have one, but it appears from comments this thread that it still earns on ATO spend.

If you want to transfer to Qantas, you have to opt-in to direct sweep (i.e. your points will be transferred to Qantas at the end of every month).

If you don't opt-in to Qantas, your points will accrue in the CBA program and you can transfer over to Velocity as and when you want (or redeem for something else in the CBA program). See the CBA guide:

https://www.commbank.com.au/content...ds/commbank-awards-credit-card-redemption.pdf

So yes, you can transfer to Qantas or Velocity, but you need to chose which one before you earn, not after.

All good! Direct monthly sweep to QFF .... this card has a cap of 500,000 QFFP / pa.

Just received my most recent Citi Select statement, up to 20th October, they have now stopped paying points on the ATO payments, suppose I was lucky to get them up till now as it seems a lot of others stopped earning a longer time ago?
Seems that this is very fluid, what are the best few now (m/c or visa or Amex?

Was yours direct sweep to QF? Anecdotally these seem the only ones to have slipped through the net since March last year.

Yes, was a direct sweep ( and I was hoping it would keep going), now I am going to downgrade this card (select) to a signature, just to keep the limit, and ask for a pro rata refund on the EXPENSIVE annual fee, they will cough and carry on any say they cant do this, but they actually can and must, as it is not in the excluded T&C.

we downgraded ours for this exact reason and cancelled the cards - frantic phone call from them - all 3 cards are fee free this year given we've been a great paying customer for so long!! once all the regular debits are sorted and shifted to other cards the Citi cards will just sit in the bottom of the drawer - haven't had much success with the Citi dining rewards either.

Can anyone comment on:

NAB Platinum Amex
Bankwest Qantas Platinum
Bankwest World (the new Plat upgrade)
Woolworths Qantas MC - I think this is a yes.
