ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Rates and utilities definitely not government charges and all indications are that land tax gets points too (until they just make the change one day).
Wife paid QLD office of state revenue (land tax) last month on the Virgin High Flyer (Citibank) without me knowing. Anyway only noticed on the statement this month. Full points paid.

Often retail values of my one way flights are well over $10,000 for 91,375 miles so yes 13% would be a great result.

1% for 0.42% is still 0.58% free money.
But, the way I use my points, I usually get ~13.985% "value". As always, YMMV especially when simply doing FlyBuys rather than points/miles.
You gotta love someone who quotes approximately but then gives such an accurate figure.

Flying domestic business class coast to coast on points saves you about $3600 for 72000 points so that is 5%. Then if you go SQ Suites for 91,375 Miles and the cash saved is 13,000 then that is a great result.

Applied for ANZ black last night so i could use for ATO payments, then got rejection email today, seemed too quick, no follow up phone call for extra documents, no calls to my accountant, as I'm self employed (only 2 years though). Is there a way to call ANZ and see if they would re-consider the application/re-evaluate it?

Is it just hard in general for self-employed people to get credit cards? Should I just stop applying for couple years and just get the missus to apply from now on?

I'm self employed and I have never had any issues. I always get the issuer to speak with my accountant. Seems to make the application process run a lot smoother.

First step would be to get a copy of your credit score and credit file from Veda. Also I would say you have been self employed for 3 years 9/10 these things never get checked. A decline that quick seems like a credit score issue or you haven't entered income/expenses with enough disposal income

well I applied last night after 5pm, and so they only had my application for roughly 6 hrs before rejection. Doubt they called my accountant, as he hasn't said anything to me. Do you actually call them up and ask them to speak to your accountant?
Might have to give them a call monday.
Will having investment properties/mortgages affect the process?

Perhaps it was your VEDA score? Or maybe you made a mistake with your expenditure vs income and that ruled you out automatically.

yeah might have to apply for veda score, to check where it's at. I double checked all the figures were in the correct location, high income, low exp.

Would you mind telling me/us how you achieve that?
You gotta love someone who quotes approximately but then gives such an accurate figure.
1.45% Amex surcharge x 70% (tax write-off) = 1.015%
Amex = 1.5ppd
I generally am able to extract about 10c value with F (or the occasional high $ J) redemptions, so that's 15c/$.
Subtract that 1.015c/$ acquisition cost and we have 13.985c/$ (or %) back.

I used the word "approximately" as the 10c is the guesstimate.

P.S. These figures have now changed with the Westpac Alt Black no longer paying 1.5ppd with ATO spend however.

Most banks require 2 (full) year financials for self employed. Not saying its impossible, some will take less but that's the more conservative rule many apply. So the short answer is yes its more difficult until you have been established a while.

Yeah I figured that being only just under 2 years self employed would kind of affect the application, hopefully it wasn't the main deciding factor. The application for Amex Business Plat states/requires you to be min. 1 year self employed.

I am self employed have been 100% so for 6 months, but the business has been registered for 4 years. The 3 Credit Card applications I have done in the last 6 months have all been "instant" approved, meaning no calls to accountants, no providing supporting documents nothing. Bring ID to the branch to pick up cards or if I am an existing customer the cards just get sent out.

same here. accountant now pays his taxes with Amex after we showed him how to maximize points

Re: Credit cards and FF points for ATO transactions

cove, where did you hear about the KF platinum change? I checked all my past statements and there is no mention of any such change.
