ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Asked in the current AMEX Velocity thread for 80/110 K point sign up, but better asked here I think.

Has anyone proved the return on this card please?

GMOH the Velocity Amex is not suitable for ATO unless you think half a point per dollar is marvelous. That cost is 2.9 cents per point.

I did look here. I couldn't find any mention of the ATO. Just wanted to see if someone had done it recently could confirm the rate on ATO payments.

They make no mention of it because they do not have a "special category" for ATP payments, unlike other cards. I did it recently, the earn is the same for any other normal purchase:

I'm having trouble finding what to spend $500 on to qualify for the 80/110K points on the new card!

looks like you'd only do ANZ if you want QFF points?

non QF - 3 points/$1 spend. 3:1 SQ conversion so 1pt:$1 on ANZ AMEX for 1.45% surcharge.

I disagree i think this is a great card for SQ and Velocity
For ANZ Amex
Velocity earn is increasing to 1.5 per $1 this month it will actually make sense to go via Velocity to SQ from ANZ Rewards as this is 1.11 per $1 instead of 1 for 1 direct.

However it gets really good with the Visa. After the change to Velocity Transfers this month you will get 1 Velocity point per $1 (which is best Visa rate from any of the dual card providers) and 0.74 SQ per $1 via Velocity

And of course any Velocity bonuses increase the SQ earn rate as well.

Had my AMEX issued cards cancelled for using the "PayPal" Friends and Family to transfer money into my wife's account. Cited breach of terms and conditions no opertunity to explain or justify they said there was zero tolerance.

$10K to the wife and $10K to another paypal account that I own via a trust. Plan was to use paypal to pay dividends from my Company to my Trust and my Wife. Card cancelled + another Amex I had that I had not used for this. 7 days to make full payment on both cards or get sent to a collection agency. No negotiation no appeal.

How did Amex know where PayPal was sending the money?

That Velocity 110,000 offer is really good thru the referral method. No good for ATO but a great offer to get started.

I had "forgotten" that NAB stopped points for ATO on QF Plat Visa and Amex and stupidly paid ATO. Did end up with a few crumbs in points as their system still credits points for "the credit card fee"
I may need to put up a list of cards to seek a bit of help on current status again?

My guess is they knew because PayPal show the merchant/supplier name on the credit card statement eg PayPal *Beta4Me if we were making a payment to you.

100% right So the see
Paypal *MrsEggs and PayPal *Eggs PTY LTD (I could have been more Imagative with the name of my Corporate Benaficary!)

HSBC is changing the points earn rate on ATO for Qantas FF to match up with Woolies so from August 1st it will be a point per dollar for $2500 and then half a point after that.
i just happen to have a number of ATO bills that are due later on in July so I may give HSBC a bigger share.

Hey Cove, how did you learn of this? Were you notified? I was expecting to read all about it on my statement issued today, but there was nothing.

edit: The change date will depend on when your account was opened. Seems I will have another 6 months with this card.

I use titanium scissors as I love 3M products.
Cutting a card can be a good move!
One card still had ATO earn to QF but why bother when you can't redeem anything other than saucepans
The other had been retired from ATO service last year so no further use.
Hope my VEDA comes up from "below average"

From memory, those scissors are quite specific. Can you please specify which are the best again?
. I am forced to use the FF Woolies card, 2500 @ 1:1 then 0.5:1. Annoying, damn annoying but what do you do..BPAY or EFT and get nothing.
Does Jetstar pay ?? My understanding is NO and I don't use it.
Even Jetstar is a pain, no points once you reach $100K in the same year.

3M titanium....I think $9.99 for 3 pairs at Costco US (a couple of years ago)
HSBC changing is a good rumour at the moment.
QCU CC is hard to get but I guess they buy their QF points at a good price.
