ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Seems the Mac Rewards will only push to QF if you choose that format of the Black Card, Otherwise the standard Black card rewards don't allow a sweep to Velocity, Krysflyer etc

Oh that sucks.

So if you don't sweep to QF, then you can only use points for toasters etc?

I am amazed that Mac's research found that a highish-end rewards card like that would be viable without an FF option

Hi Cove,

As a fellow Perthite with land tax to pay, are you able to indicate which (if any) cards can be used to get points with OSR WA? Have ANZ black, HSBC, Bankwest Plat, CBA Plat. Thank you.

Hello CatherineC,
You can get 0.75 points on BW Plat provided you have not exceeded the 200,000 point cap.
ANZ Black will probably run 0.666 points uncapped.
HSBC not sure but probably ok. My wife has that one for personal stuff.
CBA Plat is a don't know.

I had to be innovative to pay the WA Land Tax so I used several cards seeing it was xx_,xx_ in figures.
Today I did the SA land tax and $2000 an entry was painful but there is no charge for the transactions.

Just wondering if someone who has done the research could post a summary (or point me to one somewhere) of what cards still give points for ATO spend.
I realise it would now be a very short summary but still good to know. I will kick it off with what I know (which isn't much)
*Westpac Kris Flyer Amex (for those who still have them) 1.25 points per $
*

Cheers,

Mitch

But wait there's more......567 pages thanks to js quite a few years ago.
I guess the last 100 posts could work.
When I remember I do still get a kick out of putting $5000 on the WOW cc as QF points at 0.63 cents is worth 2 minutes of my time(less a tax deduction if applicable).

Well the idea of a summary has been raised before, but this changes so often the best approach would seem to be to read the last 100 posts. I would love for someone else to do the work for me but I'm not overly hopeful!

Like nights following days, it is bound to happen again - such requests !

Who once said "...life wasn't meant to be easy ...." ?

Yes I am reloading two US visa cards early so I can put multiple amounts thru in a month. Gives me the opportunity to run up xx_,xx_ AA Miles in a month.
Just be aware these miles are heading for an "enhancement" in 2016 so may become less than two times more valuable than QF points on some flight routes.

Interesting Cove. So how does an Australian citizen apply for a US cc?

I think US cards might be ok for ATO payments as Australian issued cards paying on this purchase go the way of the dodo.

For general spend as a way to sidestep changes to Australian interchange fees, US point per dollar cards are effectively 0.7 points per $A spent assuming the $A hangs around here. Probably not much worse than where the better Aussie issued cards might get diluted to after the interchange cuts. Not worth the effort or currency risk unless putting serious spend through.

Currently 30,000 AA Miles takes about 42,000 ATO at todays exchange rate so the cost for a PER-SYD PER in J so the cost is sub $200. In March it will take 35,000 AA Miles I believe.
Living the dream amaroo( subject to the exchange rate)

QFF will just start flogging points with bonus scheme (think AA) to take up the slack from any RBA induced changes.

Some longterm AA flyers haven't been too complimentary about availability ... something to think about.

Good thinking infinity....just going to empty a Cullens red to help out a friend.
Day off for sure....
