ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Mine posted yesterday for ATO transactions only last week.

I have hit my 200k limit now. So do I ditch this card now as the terms will change for me as they have for the new sign up's, or is it still good for 200k a year with ATO?

Shifty, that's interesting. I paid 19k on Friday and the transaction has passed the pending stage but the points are not in the total. Ive never had this before including doing multiple recharges in a month. I'm not at the point limit which is 300k not 200k I believe. Perhaps the change took place late in the week or there is some manual vetting of transactions?

Keep in mind that this card will be enhanced to match the woollies card soon. Ie 0.5pt:$1 after $2,500 per month.

Shifty when your year rolls over just do a tester to see they still love you. I have 10 months to wait on one of our capped cards.
Meanwhile I feel confident that some of those folks holding an ANZ Black card of some description are planning a big final ATO hurrah before that late February cut off.
My youngest son had grown used to getting a monthly stash of Qantas points at 0.97 cents each on the Amex version and had felt the slower points accumulating but cheaper Visa card was not for him.

Kangol banks levy the CC fee not ATO so no chance refund there - but ATO will pay you interest for period they have your money due to your mistake.

And if if you cannot claim CC fee for ATO pmts as tax deduction might be time to look around for a new accountant.

Actually Optus SmartPay levy the credit card fee, not the banks.

Maybe give it a few days but that is weird. Pretty sure it was always 200k, might be wrong though? Have you got any correspondence for the enhancement as yet?

I will do a tester next rollover year and report back. Smashing the absolute cough out of ANZ last few days. I did about 150k yesterday. Might lodge 2015 returns that require payment early before feb as well. Guess I better apply for BankWest in the meantime.

No correspondence about capping. Statement clear too. I read that the capping for cards obtained this year, comes in next year. Just checked my records and it's was definitely 300k pa when I received the card, but this may change with the new earn rate.

Ok, have it worked out. The HSBC card is capped at 300k points pa and that includes any sign up bonus. Just added the points received from hasbc and it's is a perfect match.

Thanks. You are very correct as well, just added mine up and I did 298k as up to last week - must have got my numbers/cards mixed up... What else changes besides earn rate with the enhancement? Annual cap or monthly or just the earn rate?

There is no cap on QCU cc but for some unknown reason my card does a $10,000 limit a day. It may have changed but I just do that limit on a day basis.
A new World card helped pay a hunk of land tax and it looks like Mrscove will hit the lead in our Qantas points chase in our household but I will try to keep up. ANZ Black runs until late February.

Thanks for the info. I have been using the Westpac SQ card for Amex and ANZ Black for Visa payments. I've been quite happy with the ANZ because it is uncapped. The $10,000.00 while irritating is the price one has to pay I suppose.

Who does the World card? I ask as one of the biggest bills I have for Visa/Mastercard is Land Tax.

For land tax you can still use Citi but that could change (without notice as you may have read on other threads).
BW does World cc and you have to be a valued customer and get invited.
I used 6 different cards to pay the land tax so there are good cards that still work.
If in doubt do a tester.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Statement just in from anz ff black and ato will bite the dust come Feb 2016 quickly running out of options

Have had two phone calls from a family member about getting a QCU cc. He was a bit shaken by the requirements. He is ready to exit his Woolies cc for the new card but I think his paperwork will run more than 50 pages seeing they need 3 months of every cc statement.

Following on from some of the discussions regarding paying SMSF expenses from a personal credit card so as to get the points, without wishing to be the bearer of bad news, this is not permitted as it is a breach of the sole-purpose test (among other things) and the ATO would take a dim view of it, with potentially significant penalties for doing so if they find out.

Glad you said that as that's what my accountant told me. When I heard the other viewpoints here I thought I was missing out.
