A brave soldier has fallen on his sword, may this be a warning people......never happy to take a hit, but for my peers......of course......id do it again :)

Sounds like Citibank may have updated their software on State taxation. We had better do tests on a variety of these style of payments and report the results.

I have overpaid a couple of times by accident...... cough, cough. had to make 3 phone calls to ATO to get the refund, but had to specify that I wanted the refund to go directly into my account or by cheque. if they refund your credit card you will lose the points..............

I won't encourage you on overpaying the fiscal fiend but I have messed up twice in recent times.....
Citibank paying on state taxes has been a biggie and after some thought I might start having to use Citi US for AA miles instead if the change has occurred. It is a bit fiddly but several hundred thousand AA miles is pretty attractive.

Any refund that is requested will ALWAYS be a cheque or a direct deposit, as you pay the RBA when paying by card, the RBA remits funds to ATO, so basically the ATOi s just receiving a cheque from the ATO, in effect not knowing of the credit card payment.

Presently having a dispute with Macquarie re Hilton card, as I paid ATO almost 7 figures last month and the points have not transferred to HH.
Have been chasing Macquarie for 3 weeks now. Al they say is they are investigating why the points did not go across?

I hope that gets resolved for you burnt.
Saw the final 3,760 points transferred on May 13th from WOWcc from a $5,000 ATO payment. This is a Macquarie run card and they did tell us the ATO was finishing and it has for this CC. The extra 10 points was from the $21 fee on ATO processing, 2,500 for the first $2,500 and 1,250 for the next $2,500.
Goodbye Woolies CC.

That's right, Macq also changed the HH card to no ATO from 11th May or so, and have reduced the monthly 1;1 cap to 4,000, after that only .5 to 1.

I was hoping to warehouse a lot of HH before the stopping of ATO earn, even though QF points are "better value" at .42% than the HH points but I already have enough QF for 10 years flying for both of us (over 6M)

I am sure we can use them wisely, but as my P1 basically came from JASA and when I drop to LTG in a while, feel that I will need to put in a few AA runs to get the plat. back, but if we do it after expiry of platinum we will be able to get it for nearly two years as we really need the ability to request redemption seats ( to help burn up points).

Where do you use the HH points? I have found them (very) close to useless in Australia. I am happy to warehouse HH if they come free, but I won't pay to earn them.

Some locations in Asia are good value, at 8500 points per night when staying 5 days or longer , then get upgrade to exec floor and breakfast included etc, A month there at 8500 per night on the "old ATO earn" would have "cost just under A$1,100 or A$35 per day, excellent value

I had a look at HKG, for example, and it was 80,000 per night!

I'm wondering about HH. I've got a stay in Conrad London in July which I funded through Citi double points offer earlier this year where I think I got the equivalent of 4.6% rebate on my spend from points redemption value. Otherwise, I think SPG are better value. With Diners only non-Amex which earns SPG in Australia now, and HH having status matched my Amex Accor Platinum status to Diamond, I'm now giving HH another look. Seems all the ones I want to stay at are 80,000 HH/night or more. Doesn't seem like great value on CC earn compared to J or better flight redemptions. Am thinking about the Citi US HH Reserve card if they will give it to me - should work with ATO at 3HH/USD effectively 2.1HH/AUD at current exchange rate. On par with Citi Prestige earn and much better than Macquarie HH and at this stage should work with our favourite fiscal biller.

You are correct, HH not the same value as J redemptions, but I have enough QFF for a while and the Hilton are handy, Johor Baru (across the causeaway in Singapore) can be had for 8500 per night, as with many others.
Keep us posted if you are able to get the US Citi HH card, and how to do it?

Citi requirement for non-US residents without a SSN is to have a checking account open for at least 6 months in good standing before applying for an international credit card account. There were a number of available reward cards on the list - HH wasn't on the list at the time - but HH wasn't on my radar then. I'll chase it up if I decide to give HH a go after July trip. Will report back on my experience if I do.

Need to be physically in a US branch to open your checking account so I went to one in NYC when I was there last year and the branch staff helped me lodge the international application 6 months later via scanned documents. They set my expectations initial limit will be small vs the large ones we're used to getting in Australia - so may be very fiddly doing large ATO payments - might not be economic. Will try for a limit increase shortly as coming up to 6 month anniversary.

Had my new card nearly 6 months now. Pretty happy - no FX fees and fair exchange rate so am using it for spend when I'm overseas - I still get points - just less than with an Australian issued card which gives you more points funded from the 3.4% "currency conversion" fee.

Keep us posted if you are able to get the US Citi HH card, and how to do it?

I have the US Citi HH Visa (have had it for over a year now). It was dead easy to apply for. From memory, it came with something like 60k bonus points after some spend (but please don't quote me on that). I haven't used the card for quite a while.

Edit: I do have SSN. And the credit limit was abysmal (around the $3k mark). I haven't bothered applying for an increase as I do not use the card. I would have closed it if it wasn't free.
