ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Business financials may need to be provided and the earn rate is not as high. It may be where we end up though.
I applied 2 weeks ago, took a week for the card to come.

Only needed to provide ABN and financial details (personal wage, expense etc), no business financials required. Got pre-approved and no follow up.

However, applied for one under my missus name as well. Got pre-approved as well, but then got sent a declined letter. Shattered.

I haven't used it yet, but yes, very low cap $100,000 spend cap (300,000 pt cap). Will report when I do use it, which will most likely be later this month.

The problem in Australia is that successive Governments have increased the number of Australians who receive some sort of benefit to about 50% of the population. What that has meant is we have too many taxpayers paying maximum tax rates of 49% income tax, plus 10% gst plus up to 30% on superannuation. To change this at a time when many post war baby boomers want to retire makes it doubly difficult as many view retiring as let's pay off all of our debts, buy a camper and 4wd and use the accumulated super money so that they qualify for a Government pension for the next 30 or so years.
The most likely change needed is to move the GST rate from 10% to 11% and send it all back to the States that generate it. That way education and health can be afforded.
Death duties would ensure the people re-introducing it get kicked out of office quite swiftly.
The black economy remains a huge hole in our tax system where we have homeowners paying 10% less for tradesmen's work around the home by paying cash as well as too many working on distributing illicit drugs to our community and dodging everything.Picking up a chunk of this would be quite helpful.

Back on topic BW,Qudos, WBC and Citi US were helpful last month for us in running up miles and points galore.

Bit off topic, but I have to vent: I agree with you 100%. I have lived in this country for decades and have not received any benefit even for a single day; I subscribe to the philosophy of working for one's betterment. I have always been on the highest, or the second highest, tax bracket and I am still finding it difficult to service all my debt (mortgages, etc). It boils my blood when I see people working in the black market, already paid off their home (if not their investment home(s) as well), AND receive benefits. I'm furious...

Phew, I feel better now; better go back to work, earn some money and pay half of it to the government so that some schmuck gets his/her fortnightly benefits.

I am using a Centurion AMEX card to pay my GST but I can tell you right now that I am finding it hard to justify paying extra to use it and only get 0.5 points per dollar. I am gritting my teeth here.

If that is your best option, perhaps get the Red card for no annual fee and get 1ppd.

I think its the red velocity card
does anybody know if paying tax via global wallet gets your points?
0.5 points per $1 spend @ mastercard rates is appealing to me

The QF equilivant is the Discovery card.

I don't have either card, but others have said they pay 1ppd. I figure that with no anual fee, it's worth a try if you don't have better options.

If you're inclined towards OneWorld, you can always credit to CX and book OneWorld through them. Much, much, lower carrier imposed ransom as the icing on the cake.

I just booked a MEL-HKG-SYD trip in J with QF and I was slapped with over $420 pp in fees (more than 50% of which was YQ). And I thought flights to and from HKG don't/shouldn't have YQ.

A funny thing happen today, I had to pay the ATO pay Bas, my secretary said she had tried to pay on the Amex and it said it did not except the payment. and to contact the card issuer, or try again, so i said try again she did and the same message, so I tried it getting the same message.I called Amex and was told that all three payments had gone through.

So now i have an overpayment of 30K. I called the ATO and was told that i could get a refund but had to wait 3 days for the payment to hit there account. just a warning has anyone had this happen?

Wayne

Gee Wayne it happened to me. I paid when it was a "refund" so that one came back electronically leaving me with the points/miles off the CC payment.
Life can be a cough sometimes and then some times it can be sweet/suite.

I had this happen last year when paying using ANZ QFF Amex - rang ANZ immediately and they said payment had gone through.

that's ugly but no it has not happened to me yet. Thanks for the warning however!

I don't use an Amex card other than Westpac co branded one and have not had this issue. ANZ is over now for ATO.

From July 1st sales of homes for more than $2 million will be subjected to a 10% withholding tax which can require you to prove your tax affairs and payments are up to date.
