ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

ohh, so if I use my mastercard it won't give me 1.25 points per dollar? :-(
is it the same for both CBA and WBC? I have both diamond and altitude black

I was going to buy a coles prepaid mastercard with no load fee using my cba diamond mastercard, then use that prepaid card to pay tax.
Apparently you can buy $1000 increments at a time - it's on ozbargain.
Is 0.672cents per velocity point? is this a good price?

I don't know the specifics of that card but I have some niggling doubts as to it earning points on ATO spend. You would want to research that before you go too far.

I was going to use my mastercard to buy a prepaid coles mastercard (was assuming this was going to give me points, not ATO)
then use the prepaid master to pay ato (and not get points)

The Coles Father's Day offer for $100/$50 prepaid M/cards are bought direct from Coles - could they not be used to pay tax on line?

AFAIK Coles Financial Services P/L would be considered a utility/insurance earn - unless you can buy this card from Coles themselves it's not really worth it.

There are 2 offers going around for coles atm:

1. Targeted fly buy fathers day offer for $100 pre paid cards bought direct in store. The bonus fly buys points converted to coles dollars offsets the card purchase fee
Using a plat edge, you would get 3MR points per dollar, then use it to pay ATO. This is one of the best deals deals around...but I wasn't targeted. 3MR points per $1 @ .42% for paying ATO (don't think it gets better than this?!)

2. The online coles prepaid mastercard, using a code on ozb, voids the card purchase fee .

$100 to pay tax? This is a lot of both time and mental effort for 200 points a pop.

Do you have a link to this?

Good find Unfunkable. Whether this works is going to depend on how your credit card company treats the purchase from the Coles financial merchant. I had a look at my ANZ platinum and couldn't find anything excluding points for such purchase, although the card is points capped a 6k per month.

I would normally say make a small purchase and see if it works before making a bigger run.

Aleky23, use the promo code provided in the ozbargin link above.

I think that if you were targeted with this offer, you'd find it is 1000 FBs points per $100 card. Plus, whatever your cc gives on the purchase. Useful for EY transfers.

This is 2nd time I've been targeted for $100 MC offer. Found harder to find supply this time (either Coles not putting them out or everyone knows about it and buying them up before I get there). Lots of data entry but feasible for a smaller bill.
I've bought the online MC with my Prestige. Awarded points on it (0.92c/pt). Used online MC to pay tax. Less points generous than the $100 offer with plat edge but more efficient on larger bills. Have a 2 card/day limit with Prestige so not very effective for me must be a security issue. Didn't find a code for waiving $5 issue fee when I followed the link in post #6687. Thought was a targeted offer.
Paid $95k this week ended up using my US card much easier & faster.

If this works, this is not a bad option if you use a 1.5 QFF point per dollar Amex. It's effectively 0.28c per QFF point, less any applicable tax deductions.

Only MC & Visa accepted for online MC so not great for most non Amex cards.
$100 targeted offer better since can use Amex in store.

I read that on ozbargin, but the Coles website says payment can be made with Visa Debit, MasterCard debit or a credit Card. That made me think that Amex might work. Only one way to find out for sure.

Amex doesn't work I've tried it already.
Just bought a 10 dollar card, will see if points post. Hopefully the deal is still active...I Guess spending $5 per $1000 to get mastercard points spend on a diamond/altitude card isn't tooooo bad?

I had this offer during Mothers day about 3 months ago, bought 170 cards $100 each. Received flybuys dollar + 3MR / $1 ( best deal of century ).

and I received similar offer this fathers day, as of now I have bought 80 cards ( all paid by amex platinum edge ). My target is 200 cards by next sunday.

50% I use pay ATO, the rest for sydney water, council, body corporate, etc.

For now I had about 350k flybuy dollar, which I will convert to Etihad points. I expect another 200k flybuy in 5 weeks time

it is pain in the cough paying $100 at a time for ATO, but I was doing $1000 per day, so no pressure.
