ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I recently put a $1000 payment with ATO via Westpac Qantas Visa card , how do you check to see if you earn points of those payment . I recently got the Westpac with 50K Bonus points so statement haven't arrived yet .

i got a letter saying they are bringing that to a stop. im currently overseas and dont know the exact end date. if someone knows the end date for coles mc or has done a recent trial please update us.?

does it pay on westpac black amex qantas or just the Altitude?

Westpac Black is Altitude....you can choose which way to use your points.

[h=1]Altitude Black[/h]Westpac’s most rewarding card offering you a choice of two great rewards programs – Altitude Rewards and Altitude Qantas with our highest points earn rate, premium travel and lifestyle services.

You can switch between programs, give them a call and they can do it over the phone, I could never get a straight answer though on how many times you can switch I have done it only a few times , just depending on which points I was seeking.

This is not about an ATO payment, but a "Government" payment to Department of Immigration. Apologies, but I have not read the previous 699 pages. Even I do not have that much stamina:)

My partner and I are applying for a Partnership Visa, the cost is around $6800 payable to Department of Immigration and Border Protection. So this is a "Government" payment, much like the ATO.

My ANZ FF Platinum cards will not earn QFF points as it is a Government payment. My WOW Visa card will not earn QFF points for the same reason. I've had a long, useless, and stupidly repetitive Secure Mail dialogue with our ANZ Indian friends in Bangalore or the Punjab or where-ever, and got absolutely no-where - as I expected of course.

I would like to earn points on such a large transaction, as I don't have many point earn opportunities these days. A potential 10,000 odd points on my ANZ QFF Amex is a lot of points to forgo. But it seems impossible.

By my reading of the Qantas Cash rules, there is no mention of Government transactions being excluded. So my plan now is to transfer the money to Qantas Cash and pay that way. It will only give me 3400 odd points, but better than nothing. Futile I know, but I have told ANZ they are going to lose the transaction.

Can anyone confirm that I am right with this. Can I use Qantas Cash and get points for a Government payment?

If you are wrong...............then there are 2 of us.......I have put a substantial amount through and am anxiously waiting the 6-8 weeks to see what (if the ) points post

I went to reload a CC tonight for ATO into next week and found I was trying to put $10,000 too much into the card. The message told me to try a lower amount and sure enough the smaller amount went thru ok.

Would love to know the answer to this, except that I have WBC Black amongst others (but no ANZ)...

Did you need to speculate on which part of India the call centre was located? We get the gist.

I'm no moral crusader but it's this type of unconscious condescension that we could all do without.

Is there a master list which shows the cards that earn points with ATO (or govt) payments? In particular the Bankwest World MC.

I have ANZ FF Black and only just noticed I was getting points on ATO. Council rates earned points though.

Others who have suffered lack of product knowledge and unintelligible accents from foreign call centres might reasonably disagree. If there's enough abuse telcos might decide to return customer service to Australia. When I call a service centre and get an Australian accent I sigh with relief.

Wish I could say the same. Yes, accents can be difficult but my experience having worked with Indian companies is that the average education levels and general "intelligence" of Indian workers actually leaves Australia in the dust. Part of this is that they actually regard learning and intellectual pursuits higher than being a sport star or a model and IMO it shows.

Unfortunately we all occasionally suffer similarly poor treatment from Australia-based service providers, yet it gives us no right to denigrate that person or the part of this country they come from.

I'm sure there are a plethora of other fora out there to air those types of views. AFF isn't one of them. Let's keep things respectful.
