ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

so now with the demise of the WBC Black am looking at new ways to pay BAS and PAYG. i have a direct Amex also but only at half points (better than nothing).
so Q.1 does Reward Pay accept the Bank branded MC/Amex or does it only accept direct Amex.
Q.2 if it shows up on your statement as "Reward Pay", could you still get away with paying ATO with WBC Black Amex ???
is there a brains trust out there who knows..........please
i have posted this question in the Rewards Pay thread too

I've used RewardPay with my Explorer. Got full points for all payments to all sorts of recipients thus far. Shame about the cost but better than nothing now. Assuming that's why it's so expensive that they can give us full points earn.
Haven't used it with a bank Amex but have read elsewhere it works. Happy to be corrected.

1. Yes you can use Bank branded MC/Amex with rewardpay.
2. Yes you will get full points with WBC black amex. but this is not a good combo, You can get more points from using AMEX explorer combination with amex P.Edge ( MR points linked - When you spent $1 wit amex explorer you get 2MR ascent ). I used with rewardpay, so far spent approx $45k ( 90,000 MR ascent points )

Cool, thx bbqwer. Will look into that tomorrow. I took my off the ball for a couple of weeks and wasted a 33K Bas

Just went to pay tax with Visa1 card(States on the back this is NOT a CREDIT CARD) and it states 0.58% fee.....what happened to the 0.15% fee everyone was saying would be charged?

It’s a bug on the first confirmation screen. It displays/calculates correctly on the payment receipt page.

it gave me a fright a couple of days ago when I was using MrHyde’s excellent Chrome script. The first information page appeared and I bashed at the keyboard to try and stop the transaction, but then I noticed the receipt was correct.

It happened maybe 5 times over 80 transactions.

AHHHHHHHH! I just email MOD to update a previous post as I thought I had given wrong info!
So VISA1 is 0.15%....just working out the correct amount when less than $50 on a card as that First screen gives the WRONG amount?
I'm hoping to not have 0.1cent left on cards!
So App says:
$56.86 is 56.77?
20.31 is 20.27 but Pc says 20.28
60.80 is 60.70 but PC calculator says 60.71???

Please check these

Always a challenge! I just take my leftover cards that have a couple of dollars or cents and use them at coles or woolies. I think last time I paid for $13 of groceries with 7 cards.

Fortunately my water rates can be paid with no minimum amount. So it is the home for all my cards that have small balances.

Some accounts I pay will have $20 or $10 minimums.

The other thing I do is to overpay where I can to avoid small balances. So if I have to pay say $485.67. I will pay $500 to save the hassle by avoiding the need for the extra transaction (ie the $14.33)

Just wrapping my head round the Visa1 thing. Do these have to bought in person? I've got a $30k bill coming up (soon to be followed by $60k).

Is it really as simple as going to cashrewards, buying $30k worth of $500 woolies e-cards. Then going in person to Woolies and buying 300 (three hundred!!) $100 Visa1 cards?

$30k is way to much, you will feel dizzy doing it. Perhaps split it $10k visa1 , $20k via rewardpay.

yes, except the buying 300 cards in one visit.. will take you numerous trips

...And paying for them 4 at a time
Please can no-one go up to manual checkouts demanding to pay for dozens of GCs with multiple WISH cards in one transaction

Hmmm, I had to take a capital gains hit in selling a business in 2016 FY and now I'm actually going to be able to look at paying my tax via CC. $37K between my wife and I - now to go and research the two cards (Amex Plat Reserve and ANZ QF-aligned Plat Visa). I have to see which one may give me some points. Won't have the time to put into the Visa 1 opportunity as payment will be by 21 August :(

If you are going amex route, Your best earning card will be amex explorer linked with amex platinum edge. By spending amex explorer, you are earning $1 for 2MR ascent points. All points pooled into amex platinum edge ( By far the best point earner, No other cards can beat ).
