ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I try and have both Qf and Sq miles in rhe bank :). Agree that Sq availability is almost always better than Qf....but if you are Qf Plat, award seat release is a great benefit....in the last few months, I have got Qf to release Syd-Lhr in J, Syd-Dfw in F, Dfw-Syd in J and 2x Syd-Hnd in J over Easter next year.

Sigh. You're right, of course - I left out the Dragon surcharge .

I looked at the charges from the point of view that I was always going to pay ATO with a card paying to KF, so Dragon was my "ground zero" if you like and I was (clumsily) trying to work out the extra benefit using Explorer/RwdPay. I have 3M QFF points and seem to miss out on every upgrade I've applied for recently, though we did redeem a couple of F award flights to DXB last year .

When I compare QF vs SQ award availability for the same dates 353 days out I seem to see more availability on SQ, hence my decision to push more points towards SQ (or perhaps even CX whose flights become available 7 days before they'd appear on QF).

SQ is superior to QF is you are heading to Europe:
1. more availability
2. less points to fly in F
3. more destinations in Europe
4. better service ( personal choice)

From my perspective, reward pay /Explorer is superior to Dragon. Explorer is some 15 c / KF point more expensive ( if tax deductible), but you attain more than twice as many points.

EDIT: Explorer/RewardPay makes my employee super payments worthwhile. However I'm assiduously avoiding using Amex/RwdPay to pay my super even though I'm an employee as well.
Why do you avoid paying for your own super with Amex/RwdPay? Is it different to employee super?

AMEX will cancel your account and you will lose all your points if you pay to your own super . There's a thread about it here somewhere. Not worth the risk IMHO .

Oic, found the thread, you must have a SMSF. I was thinking of retail/industry funds and was wondering how Amex could differentiate between your super vs your employee's super

Correct, I'm paying the 9.5% SGC monthly as an employee of my company to my own super fund.

another option is to use ATO's SBCH to pay your super, that way it becomes yet another ATO payment via reward pay
Yes, I currently use Aust Super's QuickSuper for my staff and RewardPay but just don't want to risk my points .

I'll let someone else " be the first penguin off the iceberg".

I had a few stray Only1Visas and Perfect Gift Cards left over from the recent Woolies promotions.

Both worked at the Auspost self-service machine I used to pay the ATO. The Only1Visas needed a signature to be verified by an Auspost employee, so oddly I also had to sign the back of the Only1Visas.

No fee was charged on either cards.

Both were time consuming paying in $100 instalments each time, so I doubt I'll be repeating this anytime soon.

Its been a few months since I unsuccessfully use DiviPay. Now they have an option to pay $12 per month to make $10,000 transactions. Thought that it was worth a go, so I signed up again......but once signing up, I'm place on a wait-list because there are 796 people in front of me wanting to sign up! What a setup!

As usual the funds transfer to a separate business name of Westpac did not arrive overnight so I may have to wait awhile to do this months ATO.
One of our partners put his payment to an incorrect account and our internal office accountant lost 45 minutes of her life getting the funds transferred and the interest charges reversed.

Keen to hear if it works out for you. The platform sounds great in theory.

The card payment fees are:
  • 1.45% for American Express payments.
  • 0.52% for MasterCard credit payments
  • 0.15% for MasterCard debit payments
  • 2.70% for MasterCard international payments
  • 0.78% for Visa credit payments
  • 0.15% for Visa debit payments
  • 2.70% for Visa international payments
Just wasted a Sat afternoon doing my BAS. When i went to pay, I noticed that the MasterCard credit payments surcharge has gone from 0.40 to 0.52% a rise of 0.3% which does not seem a lot, but when you pay large sums..... :( :(. Before any tax deductions, using the card from Perth, a QF point just went up from 0.60 c to 0.78 c per point !!
