ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

First 3 months free, then $24.95/month thereafter. I guess that's not terrible above a certain volume of spend...

...and it is almost too good to be true that paying back one's CC itself can earn points. May as well give it a whirl for non-amex circumstances.

In paying the ATO, it's still best to do it directly as the surcharge is just that little bit less (0.02%). Correct me if I'm wrong when I say that the gap EBP fills is the manufactured spend in paying back your own CCs (since that certain Visa doesn't slash points earn even in directly paying the likes of the ATO), as well as billers that don't accept CCs at all (which really isn't anyone I transact with).

For everything Amex, there's still B2BPay.

Correct, but it also allows you to pay ato with any other card like coles platinum. With the 15-20% bonuses they have, could be slightly better.

By way of comparison, RewardPay/Amex Explorer/Ascent is 1.32c per point.

RewardPay/Amex Explorer/Ascent is good if you have actual bills to pay and if the surcharge is tax deductible in the payer's circumstances (check with accountant). However the method above indicates merely buying points without actual bills to pay.

Thanks, I'm glad I'm not missing a major use case with this service. But yes, Coles MC + regular FB bonuses...*salivates*

Though last time I did that I ended up with 2.3m+ VA pts, I wouldn't mind collecting some more QF with that other Visa.

Using EBPay may also overcome the risk of paying SGC to your own SMSF (as currently exists with Amex/RwdPay).

I've opened an account, added the cc details. Can I add more cards, or even decide to use a different card each time?

Can add more cards, I haven’t been able to select a different card to pay different bills (automatically) but can load manually from them.

Correct. Can pay ANY Aussie bank account or BPay bill with MC or Visa. Even the same credit card the funds came from.

May i ask which card you are using specifically for paying to "self bank account" and which method you are choosing- EFT or BPay- as some cards don't give points for BPAY payments.
Also can you please explain how to pay the same credit card ?
Thanks.

You can use ANY visa or MasterCard. Your card is charged and when the funds clear, they make a payment on your behalf. Your card is making a purchase, not a BPay payment.

Your credit card statement will have BPay details on it.

With these types of opportunities its a good idea to try it and see. Even if you get a step-by-step guide, its not uncommon for aspects of it to be shut down as more and more people use it. I have certainly hesitated in the past only for the chance to evaporate. I would stress that you should feel comfortable that if the opportunity did break down mid-process that you wouldnt end up financially embarassed.
all the best

I’ve made 2 payments this week with a Visa. Funds were in the target account the next day. Put through the charge first thing in the morning 6-7am outside of business hours. Quite impressed. Must have a same day clearance with their bank.

Other similar services I’ve used with Amex have taken at least a few days to clear. Assuming Amex can’t do same day clearance from pending status.

Comfortable enough to use it for third party payments now. Reckon the ‘Pay yourself’ function might end up being abused and shut down eventually. Hope I’m wrong.

A lot of off topic comments in here.

Remember what happened last time these offers poped up (eg eastfield shops). Please let's just bequiet about this now

I completely agree....I’ve “tested” this system for some time.

Hassan...as per others advice to you already it has been suggested to you to refrain from posting all this detail as you will most likely hasten the demise of this channel. Your last post, which would be better deleted, indicates that you are now just posting more even detail. Enough has already been posted to work things out with trial and error.

This has been a cryptic thread for good reason.

Thanks.
I have deleted the post.

I've been investigating Gobbill which is somewhat similar to EBP. The fee structure meant that it wasn't suitable for me. YMMV.
