ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I've just received my St. George Amplify Qantas Platinum in the mail this week. Can anyone clarify for me whether as a new cardholder I'm subject to the same end date for ATO payments / rewards points as existing cardholders (9 Dec)? The PDS I received with the card is WEF 1 Jul 17, so I assume I could make a payment now and get some points out of it...

Yes it will finish for all of us by December 9th. I am reloading our two cards for our last hurrah with the fiscal fiend. It will be a lot if we prepay some of it.

This morning I put thru a chunk without troubling the rest of the family.
Looks like Tokyo Olympics may be with no spectators so i haven’t booked those flights.
The Maldives in April is not looking like happening.

Decision made and my sons will get the points this time. We have heaps warehoused in our dragon credit cards so we don't need them ourselves.

Now it is a matter of how much we pay in advance before the December 9th cut off. Life will be less complicated shuffling $75000 a time into those dragon credit cards out of Westpac and having to wait a day or two for the funds to be available. Sure we will miss the points/miles gathering especially paying the quarterlies, the monthlies and the land taxes. Mrscove has been doing all the shire rates for the year so she gets it. Almost Game Over.

Almost Game Over.
Yes, I had a late fling in July with a B2BPay promotional offer via QBR that got me some Qantas points for .9¢ each (don't have a Dragon).

But, unless thing change, that is basically it for now - I'm rather flush with points after several international business class redemptions were refunded and see no reason to chase more in the current environment.

Flush for me - this would be relative.

Yes @serfty we have way too many points and miles with the pandemic raging in the places we used to go. Still our two sons and partners want to get more and book ahead just to see these bookings get refunded. Most would faint if we disclosed our totals of points and miles but we feel confident travel should recommence before 2030.
We might be able to go to Adelaide , Melbourne and Sydney instead of London and Los Angeles out of Perth in the not too distant future.

Long time lurker here. 😉

Can you share the workaround?
Is it via EBP? But isn't there a cc surcharge now?

Call me paranoid, but how do we know your first post isn’t from behind a bank desk? 🤔 (I don’t know the work around referred to)

I just saw that Visa domestic card on ATO payment site is now 0.93% when it used to be 0.78%? It kind of makes it redundant doesn't it then to try and make payments before the Dragon changes its willingness to ascribe points for ATO payments in early Dec? (given YP is 1% GST excl)

There is a 15% transfer bonus offer for points going to Kris Flyer or you can wait for your 10% Dragon birthday bonus.

I just received my b'day bonus, which is nice --- am I right to say, however, that the ATO surcharge increase on Visa makes the Dragon's change to not providing fees for ATO payments somewhat irrelevant now?

We have about 7 figures to go on Dragon ATO payments and i will load the points onto family member credit cards. Almost game over but not quite. The 10% or 15% bonuses (or both) could be very nice kiickers.

The KF/bday bonus kicker is v nice, although I guess the ATO now, moreso than Dragon, has kind of shortly made it game over (although once travel kicks back in, I'd be fine paying 1% for points)

@cove can you make it stack up on something like CreditRewards for 1.8% GST inclusive (while it lasts)?

Guess the biggest unknown is what will happen to the value of FF points once we start flying again. I don’t think airline shareholders will be the only ones to take some pain.

I received the KF 15% bonus email too. With 3 year expiry and unusually having so many points over there already, I’m reluctant to take it up.
