ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Casino implies gambling - this is a sure bet ...

Until the airlines change the points required to fly, or add on more surcharges, or the credit card companies reduce the points on ATO payments, as Amex has done, to 1/2 point per $ on two of my four Amex cards, or the credit card companies change the transfer rate to your favourite airline FF program - or discontinue it! Or the airline goes bust, a la Ansett - that was a sure bet gone wrong for some of my friends.

But I know what you mean, certainly a great deal, while it lasts...

As long as we have a whale of a time by keeping the country running it should be ok. There is about 15 billion dollars due to the ATO that is overdue or long overdue the last time I looked so I hope this thread is putting a smile on some fellow taxpayers faces when they pay in a timely manner.
I still feel better telephoning rather than putting payments through the Internet but I will have to do it the other way some time this year as we work less and travel more.
By the way it really is fun rattling shintaro10x's windows as we fly over Adelaide....

Going really close to our credit card limits more than once this month has produced texts, phone calls and emails while I continue paying our share of taxes. Actually I am getting them from the fraud/audit section so I really don't mind. I am glad they are watching out for my financial well being. Getting it paid by midnight on 15 th May requires a bit of a plan.

Last night we were too far south to rattle shintaro10x's windows as double status credits put us on a long cut too south of Adelaide.
I did pay a family members tax bill on my EDR card as I am responsible for a chunk of his income.

Things we think about at 3 am. I had a sudden thought and wondered if the website we have been using was actually a phish hyper link!!!

I have told quite a few people about this option and it is surprising how many businesses know nothing about it.

Hey, cove... I'm a very heavy sleeper and the windows in the old house are quite sturdy.. don't worry cove, keep enjoying the fruits from all your hard work playing the "game" and fly over as you wish, naturally waiving to us here as you pass over.

Also as mentioned by Pushka, last week when on my most recent domestic JASA ADL > SYD, I did wonder how many business flyers knew of the QFF earning possibilities from the ATO payment portal...

Perth is getting that 747 back for the run over Adelaide (if the air stream suits) so we will give shintaro10x another shot with my next JASA to Sydney using QF 581/582.
I still have 8 days left to pay the BAS.
I did tell a couple of folks who pay the ATO quite a bit and as you might expect they are travelling more now.

At after works drinks the other night we were talking about this thread. One of our people has a large family corporation involved in development. I don't think they knew anything about this process. Eyes were lighting up as they thought of all the overseas trips they would now be able to take in the pointy end. I maxed out my limit this month so have made enquiries to change that but won't be in time for May 15 deadline. Not to worry, next quarter and final BAS will be worth it. Never thought I'd be so pleased to pay taxes.

Apart from the points, another major benefit for me is I can "delay" paying my tax by using the credit card's interest fee period which can be up to 55 days :)

Which I just did yesterday...:lol:

Only a small payment this month $15k, but even at this small amount there is enough to earn enough interest to put two more bottles Penfolds 389 in the wine rack...!

All achieved by merely using the full 55 day interest free period, and lol earning a quick 15k QFF in the process

Yep - and if you made the payment on a Visa/MC and can stick that money into an offset account for 30+ days then you actually make money :-)

It's best to rid yourself of any non tax deductible interest as early in your life as you can possibly achieve. You only have to pay a house mortgage off once to put a big smile on your face provided you keep that home adequately insured.
Going hard at a house mortgage is one of life's best investments and you will never miss that non deductible payment!
Yes we are big fans of Visa and MasterCard and this month I have used everything and a bit more including 5 Amex cards to spread the love around. Visa cards got the biggest share once again as the price per point is really one of life's bargains.

So can i assume the EDR is the best of all? They seem quite tight with assessments, I wonder what limit is possible that you have heard of.....?

My EDR is now $25k up from a starting $20k. I use it for personal stuff and some personal taxes.

This interest free period only works of course if the card has a big enough limit. Invariably I have to prefund to pay otherwise it bumps the limits

did it take a long time to get to that? i am hoping to get mine up as quickly as possible as i would prefer to put everything through the EDR .... i did get an sms the other day about opting in for limit increase but didnt actually get offered an amount. Went to the site to request then lost interest. Why cant they make limit increases as simple as the amex site....... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

My initial limit during sign-up was $20k, I was then was offered a higher limit of $25k after putting through ~$40k through it in 6 or so months, I would be happy if they gave me another $5k as some months this would be helpful...

Limit increase for EDR came in the mail after I opted in by responding to a text message.
Limits go up to 100k that I have seen but naturally the super rich may have millions thru private banking.
The problem with that automatic Amex click here section is the uplift is usually only 25% and then you cannot re-apply for months.
