ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Its been a month and this thread needs a bump.

My brother used it recently after I mentioned it to him; nice little points earner for everyone.

In a good and bad way I have no more personal tax bills to pay until Oct 2010.

Paid my business BAS bill in October and got triple points bonus with Amex, pity it was such a quiet quarter! I'll never pay by cheque again.

Yes, still able to pay be CC as of today!!! Makes paying tax so much fun... The debate still rages in my mind whether I pay the fee to use Amex (Westpac Alt. Gold) or the lesser fee for the Visa??

I shall be popping my BAS on the AMEX today ....

I just like to be right on top of my bookwork. I have all the info I need for it and the money, so may as well just do it. It is BAS for Quarter 4, Oct-Dec 09.

Very efficient. I keep Wayne Swan's money as long as I can. Our Dec 09 bas is due for lodgement late Feb, then we get a two week extension for lodging online, so put it on KF card early March. I'll expect to take the cash out of the term deposit in April to pay the KF card.

Likewise, we have until 2nd of March to Lodge and pay or Dec 09 BAS.

Of course, the Mar '10 BAS is due "only" two months later ...

ATO does have the GIC waive at the moment for many enterprises. If people contact ATO they can arrange to let their tax liability slide right until 30 Jun without incurring the General Interest Charge.

For me though I'd rather keep it turning over without the risk of the 6 month accumulation.

At this moment im looking at paying the balance of my HECS using altitude platinum, ie triple points.

If you use $100 myer gift cards as a base, you get back approx 1.8% back in points from the amex altitude platinum, but pay only 1.25% in fees to the ato, which are tax deductable (?). Works out pretty well imo.

I'm not sure that anything related to HECS can be claimed back as a tax deduction, not even processing fees.

Apologies if this has already been asked, but isn't paying your BAS a business expense, therefore not accruing KF points

We might be on different topics. I pay some expenses on behalf of my company on my private KF card. It is this transaction which earns the points. I then seek reimbursement from my company by giving them a copy of the tax invoice that I paid on the company's behalf.

I don't pay any bills using Bpay from the KF cards as Bpay transactions don't earn points.

Of course, technically the Westpac card terms say that the card cannot be used for business purposes. Not sure what Westpax execs think people are using them for other that racking up serious points on business transactions.

Just on that point, has anyone had points reversed, or disallowed by any bank becuase it was deemed a business expense and not personal?
