ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Have a six figure ATO bill to pay in a week so I think it will go to Westpac Amex KrisFlyer to give them a thrill. Sure I hate the higher fee but I will use the free credit days to lessen the pain of 1.45% for 1.5 points per dollar.
The fee in this case will be deductible so that will cut a hunk off the cost in real terms and it is just a matter of making the payment on a card after the month close off to get the free days.
The bill has to be made on the due date as the ATO would charge interest on any days past due at their penalty rate.

If it's any consolation the interest the ATO charges on late payments (called General Interest Charge and currently 9.95% compounding daily) is itself tax deductible.

Stephen65 a tax deductible interest charge of 9.95% would be nice for some. I wish the ATO would be a little more generous with us and I still hope to get a thank you letter from them this century that is not written on April 1st.

So the 15% transfer to Velocity does not cover CBA or NAB this time :(
Just to confirm using Westpac Visa for ATO....is only 0.75 point with the bonus 15%....better to use VISA MAC bank to get QFF 1:1?
Have 2K in Westpac points and need 3K min to transfer.....wait until next year?

Sorry I tried search but didn't really refine anything in a 175 page thread...

My ATO notice says "Payments cannot be made by credit card, or in person at any Tax Office branch or shopfront."

Does this mean I'm SOOL?

No, just go to the ATO page, look for payments and you'll be offered the option to pay by credit card. Done it heaps of times using my credit card even though my form says no credit card payments.

Thanks for the quick response Hvr, my Velocity points balance appreciates it!

I received a TAx office letter today stating they had not received my last quarter BAS plus the next Instalment statement. I rang their number and couldn't speak to anyone and had to have a call back. That system sucks as you only got the option for 6pm to 9pm. I finally found a time that hadnt already been booked. Stupid system. I always save the receipt generated by the credit card payment and got my accountant to check online. Of course all was in order.

So I was ready for the call back. I had to provide 3 ID types and finally on to the problem. The guy already knew that there was a problem with this letter dated 27th March. Apparently the ATO has sent out multiple incorrect letters with that date. Nice job ATO as it wasn't exactly a nice letter and then had to wait all day to speak to someone.

Means you cannot go to an ATO office and pay on credit card (I assume they have no eftpos machine)

Her voice is so re-assuring that you wish you had another tax bill to pay on a favourite credit card. She has never told me where she previously worked but could we get her along to AFF drinks?

You people are sick :p - but I admit the voice is gorgeous and makes one wonder about what lies behind the dulcet tones . OK - I'm old-fashioned, I'll stick to the card portal.

It has to be a standard voice as it sounds exactly the same as the voice I get when I dial into my AT&T conference bridge.
