ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

After reading so many posts on SQ's easy & cheap F redemptions........I'm going to dip the toes into the SQ bucket.

You won't be alone.... prudent to cover all bases while QF look to "enhance" & SQ sure looks good to build with

I'm thinking the same....for different reason. I'm just about to cross the line for LTG. After reading so many posts on SQ's easy & cheap F redemptions........I'm going to dip the toes into the SQ bucket.

No, no, don't do that. SQ's program is terrible. Just terrible. With all these new people jumping on board the availability of R Savers is sure to dry up ;)

On the SQ front does anyone know how many points for a suite to LHR one way (coming back VA upper) I'm taking my son next year and I'd like to treat him or is availability non existent ?

So not only we have to worry about which card to use for ATO payments, we now need to worry (or not) to which program to credit the points too.....

Oh the life of an AFF'er used to be so simple...

It's all just a big game. They make rules and we look at the best use of the rules while some people buy toasters.

Yes you can waste the points easily with Amex 130,000 points = $1000 travel money !! Err no thanks I think I've just discovered that covers a SQ suite Au to LHR

We are doing that to LHR in both July and August and then LAX at the end of January. Suites are a special reward for you.

...so what cards are people currently using that are attracting points for ATO transactions?

I think (and hope) that Westpac Altitude cards still pay points - Black MC 0.625 FF per $, and Amex 1.5 FF per $. Planning a payment next week.

But is it really viable at $1 for 0.5 FF pts when the ATO are charging 0.48%?
Thanks for the cards guys.

So after July we have CBA (Amex), ANZ (Visa/Amex), NAB (Visa/Amex), Westpac (Master/Amex). Any others?

In reference to QFF points, it’s an interesting question “jamesD’ that I am asking myself as at (0.5 points for $1 @ 0.48% - Visa/Master) or (1.5 points for $1 @ 1.45% - Amex) which practically work out to the same cost per point ratio it does change the game from smashing points on Citibank at 1 point per $1 for me, essentially doubling my cost when generating with Citibank.

That said, PER-LHR return in J is 224,000 points using classic, which in turn costs $3,200 to generate with the ATO. Still kicking goals compared to the real cost of the ticket @ $8k-$9k. So for me I guess it’s still worth it. What do you guys think?

…and yes I could factor other things with tax deductions for the cost of points which would make it even cheaper again, but let’s not bang on about that.

‘Jack3193’ 0.625 points per $1 on Westpac Altitude seems better than NAB and ANZ earns. Has the card got limits? Is there a better one after Amex Platinum dies in July 2013?

Get a WOW EDR CCARD 1 point per dollar, no capping or Jetstar Mastercard 1 point per dollar, think it's capped @ 100,000 points

I'm referring to the new Altitude Black card, which is their new "premium" reward card effectively becoming the new Platinum Plus. No points cap and earns 1.25 Altitude points per $ with MC or 3 per $ with Amex, but of course those points convert 2:1 to FF points, hence 0.625 per $ with MC. I believe that is the joint best earn rate you can get with a MC or Visa, on a card that still pays points for ATO transactions (except direct earn QF cards).

But I'm planning to use the Amex, as I believe the extra fee is worth it.

EDIT: sorry just realised your question about Amex Platinum referred to the Amex Platinum charge card rather than Westpac Altitude Platinum (Plus) - I thought you were referring to the introduction of a points cap on the Westpac PP from July. I think the bank issued Amex cards (but not direct Amex issued cards) remain the best, at an effective 1.5 per $, albeit with a hefty fee. Best MC as I said is Altitude Black and some others payign 0.625 per $.

yeah exactly. don't think they will like me putting large amounts every month on there so I haven't even bothered to apply for one as I figured I will get blocked pretty quickly. I imagine from reading other threads that they will chuck the sads at anything above $10k or so consistently going through there.

I have a 1 off bill to pay so I should get away with it (?) I don't know the size of as yet though.

What should I put it on AMEX Velocity or WQEDRCC?
