Australia to Reduce Incoming Int. Passenger Capacity from July 2021

The early reports of Delta are gradually being released. As we know, far more infectious, but cautious optimism that the severity is declining especially for the vaccinated who don't report the fever. Tricky in that younger people who aren't generally vaccinated but more prevalent in young, but who are also more mobile. Both vaccines appear to be effective at curtailing severe illness. We can only hope that the Aus Govt won't wait for local experience before taking onboard such developments.

Dr FM told me last week that the reports she is getting from colleagues in London is that it is not so severe.

Berejiklian - "My heart goes out to thousands of Australians who will have to wait longer to come home."

Sounds like the arrivals caps have been cut which is sad news. It'll also mean that once restrictions are ready to ease there's a bigger backlog of those already overseas to clear.

Yup - Gladys is the only one who seems to care about anyone :(.

Nooooooooo! Just when Seat son is due home next month. Nooooooooo!
How is your son travelling J or Y?

Fingers crossed - SQ seem less likely to bump Y.
Yes that's what we had heard too and also confirmed by @madrooster and his very helpful guide, so I am really still hoping - it's not so much the bumping but the possibility of whole flights being cancelled if the caps are lowered as it seems that they will be based on commentary today. Just like I've tried not to get too excited that he might get here, I'm also trying not to get too despairing that he will be cancelled and I'm failing on both counts.

I am feeling so many emotions right now, and none of them are good.

Sounds like an increase in repatriation flights but that won't cancel out the 50% reduction for commercial passengers.

Yes that’s where things went pear shaped when Dr FM was trying to get back in January - Singapore canceled whole flights and that was before the transit issues.

Except some of the people who were on commercial flights can swap to facilitated flights and that takes some of the pressure away. Have to say I am feeling very miserable, but at least Master FM can travel J so that might help. Haven’t seen him since December 2019 and he hasn’t met his niece yet. :(

The capacity of Howard Springs is 2000/fortnight. It was already taking about 800/fortnight. So at most it will take an extra 600/week. So 1/5 of the cut in caps.

Smoke and mirrors.

I guess I'll need to write to the politicians again expressing my disgust even though it won't achieve anything.
Already penned mine to Birmingham. I sent him one earlier - all his response was - do you live in South Australia? Hell yeah, in Mark Butlers electorate now!

So the caps go back up as part of phase 2, which ABC reckons would be early next year. I didn't hear any dates in the actual announcement.

It’s based on reaching a vaccination threshold level (still to be determined), so impossible to put a date on it.
