We might have an interesting chat about this over a red or two…but for now....pass…
Discussing Authoritwhatever-v-Anarchy here will descend into politics because thats how most folks see social issues..

I guess the issue is that the census was somehow converted into a social issue last time around, and this time, instead of trying to convince us that they learnt from that, I suspect they just hope we’ve forgotten.

I wonder if the Work Experience kids are still in the IT department and have an entire nation log in to a one website to do it... It was always going to fail... I haven't seen basically nothing apart from the fact we have to fill it all out in August sometime....
Talked to a guy moderately well up the food chain on the IT side of this years effort. It’s in house, not contracted this time.

I see the census ‘clever ducks’ are out early. They never complain about gov’mint decisions based on the carp they input to said gov’mint. 🤣.

I wish people understood how much census data is used in policy decisions New bus routes, health services, housing approvals, electoral boundaries, electricity prices, flight paths. It intersects with every decision . Take it lightly at your detriment.

Yes, but it's up to them to convince people of that. Last time around, they managed to alienate sufficient people, who previously had played the game, that the census outcome was of limited value. As I see it, the effort they put into that alienation was unnecessary, but it was effective. Ball is in their court.

Certainly the ABS is/are data collectors. Not knocking that, as it’s their job. However, what real use is made of all that data by our political leaders, I’m not that convinced.

Edit: I guess my point is that it all comes down to politics in the end, regardless of useful data

My form got left on my back deck - through a high gate, into a courtyard ... rather than at the front door, which is sheltered and not exposed to view from the street. I don't have a mailbox.

Boy, do you have a lot to learn as to how census data is used, and by whome.

LOL. Tell me more. Going back a few years, I worked for the ABS in Sydney (just for 2 years). 🤣.

I can gather who has more to learn. 😉

Ah, then you know it all and were just having a leg-pull. Fair 'nuf.

Just realised we won’t be at home on Census night and don’t expect we would receive a form at our shack as we’ve never received one there before and there is no postal service. 🤷‍♀️ We did receive the form at home yesterday.

This census form (or the on-line version), may be completed pretty much anytime, but try not to be too late. Not necessarily ‘on the night’, as was the ‘rule’ in the past. The idea is that everyone gets included in the census, but only once. 😉

I should have added that you can fill out your form tonight, if you wish, and mail it to the ABS. No need to wait this time around.

Edit: That is, the hard copy, or the electronic version, can be done now.

I did mine yesterday, online.

The weirdest bit was when it wanted me to create my own password. Three times it told me my proposed passwords met the requirements, but then it rejected them. So in frustration I typed in some very rude words and some symbols and numbers - and my password was accepted 😂😂

Did mine today. No problems with password creation and seemed a very easy exercise.

I doubt myself or neighbours will be able to particpate if they are relying on letterbox drops, due to a huge ongoing problem with mail theft most residents do not use the letter boxes at the residence but have PO boxes instead.

There ought to be a way to register online without needing a physical booklet (what an incredible waste of paper) to be delivered to door/letter box.
