So we have our captain and high scoring opener out of the team. What would India be like without their captain and high scoring opener out of their team.

High scoring opener is out of the Indian team.

Not a fan of drop-in pitches. Heading for another draw but our tail starts after the fall of 2nd wicket and the chances of batting collapse high.

They have no choice but to use them when they play footy on the field or use it for concerts etc.

But they successfully do so without using drop-ins at the SCG and the Gabba.

The Lions have made it pretty clear though they won't be stopping until there's a drop-in at the Gabba though.

We have a footy match every week at Adelaide oval. SCG and Gabba only every other week or so. Recovery time.

There’s essentsilly no mandatory reason for a drop in pith.

Other than to placate the footy gods. It’s just baloney.

All the Ovals were originally CRICKET GROUNDS. Gabba, WACA, ADELAIDE, SCG, MCG and used exclusively for cricket.

Football plays across them and a good curator will get the deck upto scratch by cricket season.

Like crop rotation, the grass goes well with a good furrowing as is still is the case in many a suburban oval right across the country. Always thought it enhanced the cause.

Both co-existed for a long time. If footy injuries are the issue then they should have found a way to protect the footy players without resorting to drop in pitches.

I know people are saying Perth was a success and it was a pretty good match but there were issues there too with some brutal bounces and others kept low. We have to see what happens there in future.

No JohnK, they have not coexisted for more than 3 years here in Adelaide. And in that time it’s been the drop in. Adelaide does not have the issue, the MCG which does coexist does. We had the Football Park dedicated to Football and the Adelaide Oval dedicated to cricket. Times change.

Les Burdett, the long time curator at Adelaide who produced excellent non drop in pitches only had cricket to contend with and the use of Adelaide oval was very much limited in its hosting of football. It didn’t host AFL football until just recently when the stadium was rebuilt.

The Australian cricket grounds are probably the best in the world for supporter facilities. They would not be anything like the current standard without the crowds which go to football matches.

Groan, I had to have a look at the score, innings defeat anyone?

Yes I'm a pessimist, expect the worst and you can't be disppointed! :)

Two openers, typically soft dismissals - Harris in particular. Khawaja plays so positively and then just dabs at one which didn't do anything.

It is like our batsmen get out there and think to themselves, "Now, I've seen India play patiently and dead bat a lot of balls, hardly playing a cross bat shot - well I will do the opposite and throw my wicket away".

Our bowlers must seriously get filthy watching there team mates after they slog their guts out.

Here’s lookin at our future

Am reading Gideon Haighs “Crossing the Line”.

Such an eye-opener....

we pay you to win. We don’t pay you to play. ...WTF
Only Ponting stood up and said. No you pay us to play the best we can

Selecting potential over proven performance, no shield games after early December, no harden performers

And in the age of accountability, apparently you’re only accountable before you take on the role.
Homeworkgate, Warner throwing a punch at Root...

The federated system had its ups and downs and tensions but it actually had stronger accountability than the Apple pie served up version of a insiders nominations committee and a boorish board who are accountable only unto thyself....

Apparently the Argus review questionaires based on some US CLAPTRAP included these gems....

“Is your team a learning organisation?”
“Are you tapping into people’s discretionary efforts?”

What more can I say ? MAXWELL not Smart?

So much for predicting a tame draw. Good result if we can get a draw now.

Is anyone else annoyed at the Vodafone advertisement with Smith? Nothing like being rewarded for being punished. He talks about taking accountability. Except not doing that when he was Captain was a big part of the issue.

And have to agree about the comment about not being paid to win. Well, of course that’s the main plot, but it also doesn’t mean you cheat to do so. Just playing to the next of your ability would be what is expected of you.

But it isn’t good cricket. The pitch has little to do with it. Indians bowling well and the Aussies, well, they are being paid to do whatever it is that Smith thinks is appropriate.

I'll be happy to eat my words about MMarsh here, they just need to bat some time and not worry about runs.

The underlying problem is still there though with our batsmen, the wicket really hasn't changed, as in still not doing much. Surely the other Marsh (and maybe Finch) lose their spots after those meagre displays once again?

The other Marsh has something in the bank at least. Finch is not a Test opener.

Tend to agree.

For me MMarsh & Finch don't play next test match. Burns & Maxwell come in.

Also, how is it that one of our premier fast bowlers has one of the most solid batting defences?? Speaks volumes really.

Now come on.The Marshes are having a great match.28 between them in the first innings and 97 balls.o_O
