At last, still reckon the brothers will be going to England though

I don't know how though.

With SMarsh, now that he's been culled he will be 36 and has shown that his international abilities are limited, something the selectors look to have finally realised - I think this is the end for him.

MMarsh will need to score a bucket load in the last 4 round of shield matches, and if his first few rounds are anything to go by, that may be very difficult. If he does, kudos, and he may deserve a recall although I'd rather see the form sustained over a longer time period.

Agree S Marsh has had his final dropping.
If he was going to England, they'd have stuck with him.
Wouldnt surprise to see M Marsh tour.

As for the rest, some stage they (selectors) need to pick and stick.

The squad has a much better feel to it. I would have preferred Pucovski to have developed further before being thrown in, and he does obviously have issues which I know nothing of, but these are desperate times. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Let's see how he faces the challenge, assuming he is picked in the final 11. Huge opportunity and challenge but he has the talent. Siddle has to play against SL, probably for Starc, as he is our best bet of the fast bowlers in English conditions later in the year. I feel a lot happier with this team selection. They should beat Sri Lanka but who knows? But they also have the potential to beat England if all goes well. The odds still favour England but this does look better. Wish I was going :)

We should beat Sri Lanka quite easily and there in lies the problem.

We'll only beat England in England with Smith and Warner in team and bowlers firing. England have a solid team. Our batting, apart from tail, is still fragile.

My assumption was that Smith and Warner would be in the team. This now looks stronger batting wise. The weakness is still, despite Siddle, the bowling in English conditions.

In my opinion, there is no doubt Smith and Warner will be in the team for the Ashes

I reckon Lyon will have a massive role to play in England with how he spins the ball.

I don't disagree though I think the series in England will be decided by swing. At the moment, we are well behind, particularly on tailored wickets, though we are not out of it yet if the selectors continue their bolder selections.

Those 4 Qlders?
:)
Yep. Just like the Queenslander, Border, who helped them win their first Sheffield Shield.

Yup, those four Qld'ers. Doesn't matter where you were born - they had no say in it. This isn't State (or Country) of Origin. There's been plenty of players in Sheffield Shield, as well as in the Australian side, who were born overseas (and even played for multiple countries). Kepler Wessels comes to mind first, but plenty before him (and my time). I like the cosmopolitan team we have. Better depth.

They've all scored runs in Sheffield Shield or Club matches this summer and have all played in England and have knowledge of playing in England. Give them the opportunity for some time out in the middle in the Test arena now against Sri Lanka and then off to England.

Except Maxwell. What on earth did he do wrong.

Glenn Maxwell

Not scoring runs in the longer versions of the game - he is renowned as a short form of the game exponent.

One of the fastest scorers in world cricket, Glenn Maxwell looked set to be a long-term a key man in Australia's middle order in the shorter formats.

.
Australia have also used Maxwell in Tests but to less effect - patience at the crease has not generally been one of his strengths. However, in Delhi in 2013 he had the distinction of opening the batting and bowling in the same Test, as Australia searched in vain for something to turn their disastrous series around. He scored a maiden Test century against India in 2017 but could not find a space in a new-look Australia side post the ball-tampering scandal. As of late 2018 he had yet to play a Test on home soil.

C'mon @QF WP , you don't seriously believe that do you?

His stats over the last 18 months (when he's actually been let play by the selectors and not stuffed about) in Shield certainly say otherwise, 833 @ 49. The old line that he's a 'only a short form specialist' really doesn't stack up any more, especially considering some of the baggy greens they've handed out or continually rewarded non-performers over the last 18 months.

Australian players of yesteryear used to play in English county cricket during our off season.

Now there's the IPL, Carribean League, Bangladeshi league etc. Focus is on money offered by hit and giggle cricket.

He's had to concentrate on his short form of the game, because he wasn't high on the selectors lists. I understand this is due to his dynamic within the team being in question.

Completely agree with you on the MMarsh and SMarsh et al issue - I wouldn't have them in my team. You are only as good as your last Test series, with a component included around the Sheffield Shield output.

Relax, it was a joke
:)

But don't refer to State of Origin, as most of the Qlders in that aren't Qlders either ;)

Then you need to understand the use of emoji's to express yourself better then ;)

Nah, that's off-topic, I'll let that one go through to the keeper :D
