Fernando to Head, OUT, and the stand is broken! Full, straight, playing across the line and that is very out. He briefly chats to Burns about a review, but doesn't waste one
TM Head lbw b Fernando 161 (204b 21x4 1x6) SR: 78.92

Stand was 308. Here's where it sits among Australia's highest. Inside the top 20.

Kurt Patterson comes in and immediately congratulates Burns on getting his 150:

73.4
1 run
de Silva to Burns, 1 run, on the stumps, opens the face into the point area and that's 150 for Burns off 211 balls

and gets lucky:

73.5
0 run
de Silva to Patterson, no run, dropped first ball at short leg! And that was a sitter! Patterson pushes forward, gets an inside edge into his pad and it balloons up to Thirimanne who spills it. What a life for KP

Yea
That was a dolly. Which he snatched at and spilled....

It will be a long day as over rate is slow

Run rate is way past 4 per over

Joe Burns closing in on his highest Test score - currently it's 170. 10 runs to equal, 11 to beat

New ball is available and it will be taken straightaway. Rajitha into attack. Half an hour left in the day. Will it swing again? Gloomy evening

Which he equalled here:

Fernando to Burns, 1 run, straightens the line, on the pads, worked wide of mid-on to equal his career best

and achieved his new high score here:

cricinfo said:
84.2
1 run
Rajitha to Burns, 1 run, length ball, straight, pushed into midwicket for the single that sets a new career-best

Kurt Patterson has made short work of the Sri Lankan bowlers and carried on where Head left off. Already, Patterson is 25 and the partnership is 48. 4/384 at stumps. Burns 172 n.o.

That's the close on what has become a day of dominance by Australia from a rocky position of 3 for 28. Joe Burns raises his bat around the ground as he leads the players off. He's played outstandingly well. Scored Australia's first Test hundred of the season which was quickly followed by Travis Head's maiden Test ton. The early promise for Sri Lanka quickly faded as their inexperience pace attack struggled to maintain pressure while Dilruwan Perera couldn't control the run-rate either. They also missed four catches and a run out. It will be a huge first-innings total they will face unless they strike quickly in the morning.

Sadly Burns bowled for 1.... while I was outback

It took off forever to fix the scoreboard

When it rains it pours

Patterson maiden Test century. (After being dropped first ball)

3 centuries in an innings for both batters and bowlers

Tea break and there’s a bit of a fun challenge with Movember

One of my former ACs up on the screen !

0/47. Easy start by Sri Lanka.

Doesn’t seem to be any gremlins in their batting unlike the challenge in which ‘Keep it Neat’ won...

The ATO was defeated.....

I’m missing on the cricket watching today - down at Coolangatta. Catching up via internet and AFF

Oh please let the batsman be OK. He hasn’t moved much at all but he is at least conscious.

Hit by a bouncer? More information for the visually blind today?

Ah just looked up Cricinfo:

4.50pm Plenty of time being taken to get Karunaratne ready for the stretcher. He's been put in a neck brace and is now being rolled onto the stretcher. Getting excellent medical support. Chandimal ready to come out to bat, this will be tough for him as well. And the Australia players. Karunaratne, who has been talking to medical staff throughout, going to be driven straight off the ground and you suspect off to hospital to be checked over. Pat coughmins gives him a bat on the leg as he's about to be driven off the ground. Paine chatting with the umpires. Now leaving the ground on the back of the buggy. Warm applause from the crowd. Aussie team doctor on the back of the cart with him

4.45pm Karunaratne still lying in the crease as he's carefully checked out by the physio and doctor. They are calling for the stretcher and it's coming onto the ground in cart. All precautions being taken as you would expect. He's being kept very still in the crease at the moment, is chatting with the medical staff. More medics are coming out. They'll be no rushing with this. Tim Paine is checking on him.

coughmins to FDM Karunaratne, no run, gets hit by a bouncer and he's down on his back in the crease. On the back of the helmet, close to the neck area. Immediate concern from the Australia players. Physio and Australia team doctor is out there. May have glanced off his shoulder before contact with the neck

He ducked into what he thought was a bouncer from coughmins but it didn’t bounce all that much. Missed the helmet and hit him on the nape of the neck. Just been taken off by stretcher on the car.

Hit by a coughmins bouncer. Ducked, took his eyes off hit and it hit him in the back of the head/neck (possibly after grazing his shoulder).

Ouch.
I took the liberty to duck out of the ground while the long break was happening.

From the sounds of it it’s not a good part of the body to be hit...

Anyway gives a whole new meaning to Starc in this photo throwing thunderbolts

And Gary fielding at fine leg having kids caps, hats and bats thrown at him to autograph

Usually they just throw flowers.....

View attachment 152347 Ouch.

It’s a shame when you give people the chance to grab an autograph and they take it just one step too far and then it will be banned.

Stumps Day Two

One of those Starc Thunderbolts almost decapitated the captain and he got the gloves On it and was caught behind....

123 for 5. Sorry. Sounded rhythmic.

123 for 3 at 5.53pm

Australia definitely the better of the day and likely to press on for Victory.

I may skip tomorrow and visit that other place of Victory. War memorial and/or
lunch at the Hoi Polloi (Old Parliament House non-members bar)

Ran over this in a shopfront here in Manuka

Memories. As I got a small autographed bat from that tour
