I don't want to sound nasty but someone on Cricinfo mentioned that M. Marsh batting average is 26 and bowling average 43.

But can't just blame him on another batting collapse. Very poor looking scorecard. It'd need to be something special to avoid defeat now and I'll leave that to the optimists.

I know these are unfamiliar conditions but the way Pakistan is handling batting in their 2nd innings you'd swear there's nothing in the pitch other than demons.

And yes miracles do happen.

People will probably not agree with my next statement, but this is how Australian cricket has made me feel the past few years.

For me, while I was disappointing what happened in SA, it was no where near as big as a deal for me like some made it. What is a much much bigger deal to me and one that continually makes me angry to my core, is that the Australian team over the past few years has been a boys club for a select few players where no matter what they do they are judged on completely different criteria then others and they only have to perform once in a blue moon to warrant being selected again and again. This below quote sums it up perfectly why a lot of people like me are angry at Australian cricket:

Mitch Marsh’s sole run of good form came in the easiest of circumstances, over the final three Tests of a home Ashes series which was already deflated, Australia having stormed to a 2-0 lead to break England’s spirit.

On either side of that rampant run he has been consistently poor with the bat. Mitch has now averaged just 10 with the bat across his past ten Test innings.

His older brother, meanwhile, was once a solid contributor on the road but has become a complete passenger outside of Australia, having averaged just 15 in his past 10 matches away from home.

That duo over these 3 innings in UAE has added 35 runs at an average of 5.8, with the 'all-rounder' taking 1 wicket (Yasir Shah) @ 59 (only bowling 17 overs). As the 'experienced' players in the squad they have added nothing, but are somehow judged on completely different criteria then some on backing up their continual flummoxing selections.

If CA are serious about the test team, they need to start selecting players on merit and not carry their pet players because of some 'potential' that they believe is there - yet the stats continually prove it isn't.

Agree totally, Callum Ferguson is one that imo was treated very harshly.

It seems if you bag the Marsh brothers it's because you are anti W.A., probably even more so now that another westie is coach.

Think of the number of times in the last few years that the lower order, i.e. the bolwers have saved Australia's skin through their batting, witnessed again with Starc in this innings.

One bright sign is Will Pucovski, but maybe the pressure will get to him. Also younger Lehmann seems to be the goods.

But there is obviously a big gap between Shield and Test level

Will Pucovski does look the goods but has been inconsistent. He clearly has lots of ability. Nothing surprising about inconsistency as he is still only 20. He should be allowed to develop and mature at least for this year in the Shield and we see how he goes.

On the Marsh Bros a WA coach will keep them alive for a while yet unless of course big bro pulls the pin himself.

I've lost count of the number of times our last 5 wickets have outscored the first 5 wickets.

Ashes 2013/14

- 1st Test
-- 6/132 to all out 295, Brad Haddin 94, Mitchell Johnson 64. Easy win and in 2nd innings Haddin scored 53 and Johnson 39*.
- 2nd Test
-- 5/257 to 9d/570, Haddin 118, Ryan Harris 55*. Easy win.
- 3rd Test
-- 5/143 to all out 385, Haddin 55, Johnson 39. Easy win.
- 4th Test
-- 6/122 to all out 204, Haddin 65. Easy win.
- 5th Test
-- 5/97 to all out 326, Haddin 75 and 2nd innings 4/91 to all out 276. Easy win.

Series was a whitewash with Haddin and Johnson standout performers and Rogers, Warner, Clarke and Smith feasting on runs.

This was reminiscent of the West Indies side in 1984 where we had them 5 wickets down for less than 170 in all 5 matches yet they managed to score 350+ each time.

Since that Ashes series the middle order has been suffering badly with only Smith and Warner scoring runs. But we're also missing the calibre of players to consistently perform. Time to rebuild.
