Australian Cricket Season 2024-2025

Not going with the Gabba first again. Five tests in seven weeks. Lot a cricket if they get to the 5th day.

Pink ball test at the MCG .... heck yeah! Booking my flights asap!!!

Will be excited to go back to Mackay for some games too. I really like that ground.

I've just booked flights and accommodation for Days 1-3 of the Adelaide test. I've not been to the ground before so seeking advice on where to sit. Presumably behind the bowler but which end and which stand/bay/area etc?

North end is the Hill
It’s GA and a grassed area

South End
Terrace is public tics
First level is Members Area so no cigar
Top level is a great view
At the highest height it’s a high as the MCG and it stays out of the sun

Just not in the Eastern stand. It faces West. Can't see a thing and it can get hot🔥

There were stories about a possible tri-series between Australia, India and Pakistan but it seems this is not going to happen.

For 7 years. Christmas festivities indeed
The marketing on that has been interesting. Ive never heard it being called that before but except for last year, that's when it's been held for quite some years. Before then it was the Australia Day Test match but that was almost 50 years ago now. Yes. We went to Test matches as adults that long ago. 😀

But no tests for Brisbane after 2025/26 season
Maybe someone can explain it, but I don't actually quite understand why the Gabba isn't hosting any tests beyond 2025/26 - it kinda seems like it's due to deteriorating infrastructure?

It's a pretty iconic venue and Queensland usually turns out for the big test matches, so its a bit confusing

There would still be tests but nothing guaranteed and its all about what's happening for the Olympics.

Hopefully more pressure on the Govt and their (imho stupid) QSAC proposal. Unlike many countries we actually have a natural use for oval stadiums post Games with cricket and AFL.
In my mind there are only two options
- Rebuild or partially upgrade the Gabba, and maybe a partial upgrade might work, even a temporary unroofed stand like the Sydney 2000 wings that were later removed
- Build a brand new stadium, and then mostly demolish the Gabba for housing.

Because of the unknown planning for the Olympics. Why would they risk it? I didn't think the crowds were that good? Maybe I'm thinking of Perth.

What are the infrastructure issues are with the Gabba? You don’t need a roof in QLD. Biggest issue with the Gabba test is the wicket and the advantage to the team getting to bat first.

They don't know what the Olympics wants for the oval

A flat surface ….

Until 1956 the MCG was dome-shaped like the SCG and Gabba. Which of course ruined the pitch there

And The slips fielders are a good foot lower than the pitch making edges much more catchable…

And spare a thought for Hobart and Canberra who would love to host more Test matches
