Australian Cricket Season 2024-2025

On Konstas think he played his role. The others in the opening four are always slow starters, as was Marsh, so needed someone to set a good pace this morning, such was the pitch.

From speaking to a Dad whose son played against and with him in rep teams over the past few years, commented that he was super mild mannered, and it was probably more a planned reaction to the Indians - as a young debutant he was always going to get it from them.

Think Marsh is well and truly done. Will be interesting to see what they do for Sri Lanka if Green is fit

Until an Umpire responds then jury is out. This is so far just media speak and doesn't count. I did check on Lords website the other day and this isn't specifically mentioned in fielding. Indeed it focuses on player obstruction of various means and not extra personnel.

If it is against the rules then the Unpires failed in their responsibility.

If you are concerned that it's cheating then why didn't you comment on this back in November? The media did.

Anyone know when the Australian Cricket season ends in Oz. Just curious as to whether it’s almost over.

After the BB then Sheffield Shield cricket resumes. Usual cricket season ends in March but these days AFL fixtures seem to take over prime cricket ovals before the season has finished. I believe that starts in late Feb or early March.

Define season.

The Mens test team is in Sri Lanka from late January - 1st test starts 29 Jan.

Domestic Big Bash final is 27 Jan, but the Shield Final is in late March.

Women's Ashes starts next week and continues into Feb.

A very shallow article, but then I read the article about the win and the comments. ☹️
Blatant racism appears to be the forte of those commenting.
And a similar themed article written in the Indian press will have the exact same racism comments but in reverse.

Looks like India don't need Bumrah............

Sydney, 1994, Australia chasing 117 to beat South Africa.... all out 111 and McDermott made 29 of those.....
And Damien Martyn was dropped for years following that match with the blame for the loss placed entirely on his shoulders. The same treatment doesn't seem to be afforded to players these days. Maybe it's because we just don't have the replacement stocks we had back then.

A series win can mask deeper issues and our top order is still pretty fragile. We don't need another Warner - anyone can fling the bat, and we don't want to play "Bazball" - so I don't see Konstas' approach as something to get too excited about.

The selectors have two big problems - an embarrassment of riches of bowlers and all-rounders, and a very shallow pool of batting talent.

WRT - You do seem to be deliberately obfuscating the issue. It's not an issue with players ONFIELD but many Indian staff OFF FIELD helpers reducing the work load of their on field players by reducing the work the on field players have to do to retrieve a ball thus saving energy for them, especially ion a long game. Not in the spirit of the game. Just give the players chairs to relax and let the unselected off field helpers field to ball all the time then.

I don’t see how throwing a ball back is against the spirit of the game or against the rules. As a kid watching the shield, we used to jump the fence and throw it back once it hit the boundary (when boundary was the fence) for both teams. At low club level we expect the ball to be thrown back 😆 . I have no problem with it.

I understand the issue perfectly. If such actions by anyone aren't illegal then it's simply something they are doing that isn't unlawful. But you seem to be taking it to a level that you have concluded the players are being lazy or protected too much. If the Aussies think it's a worthy idea then watch this space.

I don't believe its the throwing back that's the issue - such has long happened when a six is scored. Its the fact that someone from the Indian side is in-place to get the ball from the boundary to save the on-field players having to go to the boundary to retrieve. If it's a well hit 4, might save the fielder ~100m jogging/walking in total? Saves a bit of energy. May or may not be significant, or material, but 'not in the spirit', at least. Like many things, its the extent to which its taken. As a casual retrieval and throw-in, OK. As a deliberate strategy, not OK.

BTW, does anyone else think Kohli is, in general on-field, a w*nker?

Let's just say he does little to endear himself to the non-India supporters. Huge respect for his skill and talent, but don't rate his on-field - or off-field - carry on. Also get the very distinct impression that he's one of those who can dish it out, but can't take it when it's served up to him.
