Commonwealth declares multiple Sydney LGAs hotspots

Australia's Chief Medical Officer, Professor Paul Kelly, has declared the following Sydney LGAs a Commonwealth hotspot:

  • Sydney
  • Waverley
  • Randwick
  • Canada Bay
  • Inner West
  • Bayside
  • Woollahra
This inital declaration begins today and will last until at least June 30.

3 of those 7 LGAs have zero cases whilst 3 other LGAs with positives arent declared hotspots. Wish they would be more transparent in their explanations.

I think a couple of posts have indicated if you visited one of the 7 LGAs that you cannot leave Metro Sydney. I read NSW Health is now indicating its only if you live or work in one of those 7 LGAs that you cannot leave Metro Sydney for non-essential travel for the next 7 days.

.....

Following updated health advice from the Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant about the growing risk to the community, the following restrictions will be introduced for Greater Sydney, the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour;
  • Visitors to households will be limited to 5 guests – including children;
  • Masks will be compulsory in all indoor non-residential settings, including workplaces, and at organised outdoor events;
  • Drinking while standing at indoor venues will not be allowed;
  • Singing by audiences at indoor shows or by congregants at indoor places of worship will not be allowed;
  • Dancing will not be allowed at indoor hospitality venues or nightclubs however, dancing is allowed at weddings for the bridal party only (no more than 20 people);
  • Dance and gym classes limited to 20 per class (masks must be worn);
  • The one person per four square metre rule will be re-introduced for all indoor and outdoor settings, including weddings and funerals;
  • Outdoor seated events will be limited to 50% seated capacity;
  • Previous public transport capacity limits, represented by green dots, will be reintroduced;
  • If you live or work in the City of Sydney, Waverley, Randwick, Canada Bay, Inner West, Bayside, and Woollahra local government areas, you cannot travel outside metropolitan Sydney for non-essential travel.

That part was pretty clear in the press conference. Where things got a bit messy was what if someone lives outside Metro Sydney but travels to one of those LGAs for work vs. what is essential work.

Commonwealth declares multiple Sydney LGAs hotspots

Australia's Chief Medical Officer, Professor Paul Kelly, has declared the following Sydney LGAs a Commonwealth hotspot:

The Commonwealth Hotpot definition is 30 cases over a rolling 3 day period.

I think it is 5 +10 for the previous 48 hrs. And with 9 hours to go was at 13 = 28 in total. So if more positive cases have been returned since the NSW Press Conference, the trigger in second bullet point below may have been reached. It is also 3 hours till 8PM.

So that may men extra cases are now known, as they were not quite there at the time of this morning's NSW Press Conference.

However note the first bullet below, a more transmissible strain, is in itself a trigger to be a hotspot.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least another local case in tomorrow's report.

I guess the whole of Australia and NZ public health are waiting for the possible 'turn the corner' number.

I'm guessing there were some previously where the more transmissible was used but not hotspot "by number" was reached.

Interesting just saw news and CHO Chant said at the super spreader party, there were several people vaccinated and none of them caught it.

Yes this was in this mornings press conference. Given she said fully vaccinated, likely they had had Pfizer.

So something that has not been discussed or considered is if NSW suspends international quarantine.

I don't see the other states picking up the slack. It would have a major impact to the country - not to mention all the states putting interstate people in HQ.

I wouldn't worry, it's not going to happen.

The Gladys/Scomo team will ensure it won't happen. trust me.

NSW has had 2 temporary reductions in arrivals quotas (both times when other states did also, for 2 weeks each time) but has never suspended arrivals altogether, so cant see it happening now. There is only 1 person in hospital with Covid.

I'd like to see her do it just to prove a point to the other states (especially QLD who won't pay their bill)

Lynda, I don't think you're panicking enough. ;)

I agree with your logic....except this variant seems to be transmitted in hotel quarantine easily so they might come to a different view.

Well. Based on everything we've heard so far about delta transmittability, maybe it isn't compatible with the current set up of HQ? Maybe there can't be guests in adjacent rooms? Maybe only 1 in every 3 rooms should he occupied. Who knows.

One thing, if I remember correctly, the transmission the Bondi outbreak had nothing to do with incoming passenger flights. Whilst suspending passenger flights will help stop in hotel transmission, I can't see a scenario where freighter flights are suspended.

This pricked my interest this morning when she said it, and I later posted it to highlight it. The two times in the conference I heard her address it she only said "vaccinated" (so unknown if she meant fully vaccinated or whether they had had only first dose, or even a mix), which is also how the ABC quoted it as per my earlier post today.

"What is interesting is a number of the people at this venue were vaccinated, none of the vaccinated ones have become positive to my knowledge.
"We are interested in that into the future.

Though maybe she spoke further on a third time that I missed?

All of this started from a transport driver. Why couldn’t Sydney use the Rydges where crew could walk there with no shuttle bus required.

Aircrew is our Achilles heel here in Sydney as the Northern Beaches outbreak is also speculated to also have been crew.

But hasn’t she been vaccinated already? You can’t possibly believe anything she says as she’s already had the 5G chip implanted so the Illuminati will be controlling her thoughts and as such that’s exactly what we’d expect her to say. :p;)

Ha probs. The AZ vax is better than the Pfizer one at the Delta variant - I wonder which one she had!

Dr Chant received the AstraZeneca vaccine.
