NSW Regional restrictions

"In the regions (anywhere in NSW other than Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast or Wollongong), no more than five visitors in your home.
"All hospitality has to be seated — one person per four square metre rule.
"Only a 50 per cent capacity for outdoor events. Indoor mask wearing and, again, restrictions in relation to funerals and weddings.
“So for those parts of New South Wales that aren’t in lockdown, restrictions still apply because we want to make sure that if there have been any occasions where people unknowingly have taken the virus outside into the regions, that we don’t have any spread in those regions.”
  • People who have been in the Greater Sydney region (including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong) on or after June 21 should follow the stay-at-home orders for a period of 14 days after they left Greater Sydney.
  • Visitors to households will be limited to 5 guests – including children;
  • Masks will be compulsory in all indoor non-residential settings, including workplaces, and at organised outdoor events;
  • Drinking while standing at indoor venues will not be allowed;
  • Singing by audiences and choirs at indoor venues or by congregants at indoor places of worship will not be allowed;
  • Dancing will not be allowed at indoor hospitality venues or nightclubs however, dancing is allowed at weddings for the wedding party only (no more than 20 people);
  • Dance and gym classes limited to 20 per class (masks must be worn);
  • The one person per four square metre rule will be re-introduced for all indoor and outdoor settings, including weddings and funerals;
  • Outdoor seated, ticketed events will be limited to 50 per cent seated capacity;

Thinking of a quick trip to Gosford this afternoon (before 6pm) to get two weeks off work ;)

We'll probably WFH rather than wear masks anyway.

I think masks in the office came in on Wednesday - we went to WFH Wednesday arvo (I already WFH 2-3 days per week)

We sent staff to QLD on the 18th to prepare for a trade show thats not for another 2 weeks.

What an absolute joke. As the rest of the world moves on from this virus, Australia is now it arguably its worst position yet. I said a year ago we were just kicking the can down the road, and I take no joy in saying i told you so.

Never been so ashamed of my country.

By “the rest of the world” what you really mean is “Europe and North America + Israel”. Most of the rest of the rest of the world is still facing all sorts of restrictions.

The difference? Vaccinations. Australia would be getting closer to being in a reasonable spot if it didn’t bet the farm on the AZ and have a media that over dramatized concerns about it.

I thought a very sweet moment in an otherwise sombre press conference this afternoon was when one female reporter asked Brad Hazzard a snarky question. The reporter had her mask down below her nose, and when he finished his answer Hazzard gave a little lecture that correct mask wearing involved covering the mouth and nose!

I don’t know quite how the limo drivers work - seem to be in a different category. WA was saying their limo drivers don’t need to be vaccinated either and they were going to look at it. Weird - seems almost obvious that they should have to be,
So according to ABC, people in contact with recent overseas arrivals are supposed to be vaccinated but this didn’t extend to private drivers until the public health order was amended yesterday! Talk about leaving a great big hole in the protection!

That's what Skynews was eluding to earlier this week. It may have even been there was no mask requirement. The premier seemed a bit exasperated when pressed on it and said there were 'factsheets'.

Maybe this will be the trigger that allows anyone to get AZ if they sign waiver....

Fed Gov being asked why don’t they do that right now in their press conference...

What a mess

Especially with questions now being raised about Pfizer, especially for young males. Better the devil you know sometimes.

Really. 'The rest of the world moves on from the virus'. Sorry, but 🤣 .

And personally, I'd say the time when hundreds and hundreds of people were dying in Victoria put Australia in a worse situation than now.

You've never been so ashamed of your country with ... a handful of virus cases and most of the country (until a few days ago, the overwelming majority of the country) moving about freely? Sheesh. Hard to please, I reckon.

I don’t believe there is any other developed, first world democracy with an incredibly well funded and functioning healthcare system locking down their largest city over a positivity rate of about 0.0005%.

I agree that vaccination is a key, however 18 months into this the fact that we’re not prepared to accept any form of transmission without going into a full meltdown is a joke.

Yes, the world is beginning to reopen. Not lockdown harder.

Yes, there was fatalities in aged care in Melbourne. History will no doubt question if they were all dropping dead due to covid.

I’m very ashamed that, 18 months in, our highly funded government has zero plan to move forward. Couldn’t care less about a handful of cases here and there. Our politicians reactions, however, are a serious problem.

Singapore seems to have the right idea. Guess that's why the discussion has been called off 😒

I guess it’s not the number of cases, it’s the speed of spread that counts. If there’s a handful of cases one week and one week later there’s still a handful of cases and another week later still the same number of cases. …. who cares? In fact we rarely see any hysteria if that remains the case.

I guess though when the number multiples from a handful to 15 handfuls over the course of a week, they’re assuming in the absence of some sort of mitigation, that’s 15 handfuls could multiply to 225 handfuls in another week and so on …

No politician, even Gladys, who has arguable been the most reasonable of all the premiers, is going to take that sort of risk. If this turned into 20,000 cases there probably would be at least 100-200 deaths. Electorally not a good look, regardless of how it compares to their “regular flu”, until there some sort of movement in the media around this.

Australian residents would not tolerate the ongoing restrictions - masks have been compulsory here for 12 months or more now. Outside and inside. Restrictions on gatherings. No alcohol can be sold in venues after 10:30pm. Limits on large events.

Singapore tolerates low levels of of ongoing cases - and allows 5x number of inbound arrivals per capita - because they don’t explode like they always seem to in Australia. Presumably because of ongoing restrictions that would be unacceptable in Australia.

incredibly well funded and functioning healthcare system

We have just endured 40 hours of this magnificent edifice in action and the result was not pretty.
Before making such a statement again, spend an evening in the er of your local hospital
