It absolutely is if you are outside the current supply-restricted criteria to receive a Pfizer dose

Thats a different debate, the post was about over 40s i.e those eligible.

sounds like ….inside (infectivity ) knowledge = panic.. why else would everyone be throwing up the shutters ?

Well this is WA, but seems super odd given volume. They also not trusting that being partially vaccinated will help reduce spread.

WA case a returned traveller from Sydney

WA Health Minister Roger Cook says there's one active community case in the state

He says it's a fast moving situation.
The woman is a physiotherapist. She had lunch at Lyfe Cafe at Bondi in Sydney. She returned to Perth on June 20.
She has since tested positive to COVID-19.

So at this rate there will soon be very few jurisdictions in the Australia/NZ bubble where this NSW Outbreak has not visited.

Well with news from The Granites seeming to be getting worse, maybe this is the point at which we, as a nation, collectively look in the mirror and tell ourselves to stop hysterically throwing good medicine literally down the drain and start to seriously consider how we live with this virus.
If this get's away from us Australia wide, which is a 50/50 now, the PM, gov't, media and populace will change, but it will still take a few months. Change will be forced on us.

Say what you like about Melb defeating COVID last year, but Wuhan strain was the featherweight class, Delta is a middlewight.

Only one of the 26 state run sites has a wait list that long and that is the very popular Olympic Park. Can get in at many of the hospitals this week, plus there are commwealth run sites too. Encouraging people to disregard health advice and go for AZ due to wait times that dont exist in most venues isnt necessary.
I'm sorry but that's frankly not true regarding the Pfizer availability. My neighbour who is in their 60s, is in a high risk group but has a blood clotting disorder has been to the hospital here in Hornsby and has been put on a waiting list for some time. At the same time, I would encourage you to look at the vaccine booking websites for clinics in the greater Sydney area, looking specifically at when these Pfizer doses will be available. Here's some where I live - notice that they are saying they are accepting appointments from 12 July: Book Your Doctor Online - HotDoc

Canberra tourism is taking a bit of a beating due to Sydney people not being allowed to travel here, so this won’t help. :( Yes it will recover. Hope by Floriade everything is OK again.
I hope they continue with the Floriade in the suburbs too though - that was a great outcome from last year's cancellation!

Some more details on the WA case. She returned from Sydney (Bondi) on Sunday. Both she and her husband tested negative on Monday. She was "in the community" from Tuesday to Thursday and had not been out since then. She then started to get symptoms and got re-tested with a positive result overnight.

This explains why last night SA changed border rules to include those dates

Well that is good news then, as they normally regard when people become symptomatic as having been infectious for up to the 3 days prior. I am not sure though it this still applies to this strain or not.

Yeah... so many people I know had a cold going around in Melbourne and all of them went off to get tested. Hundreds of hours wasted. All of them negative.

Going forward there needs to be a better way...

firstly in regards to the testing process... perhaps a rapid test available for free at pharmacies or something. Or maybe each household is sent one per person to keep in reserve? Only if that returns a positive do you need to line up for the full test.

Secondly the symptom checker and hotline needs to be updated in real time and in a dynamic way. If there's a cold going around Melbourne, your colleagues in the office had it and tested negative, and you haven't been to any exposure sites... why do they tell you to go and line up for hours for a test?
Totally agree on this.

I have a condition called hyperreactive upper airway (non-asthma) - primary symptom is a very aggressive cough, and lots of allergies - primary symptoms are runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing.

If I took the health advice literally, I would equally literally, require testing every single day of my life as I am always coughing, sneezing and blowing my nose. I have no clue how I would know if my symptoms were those of COVID and I am actually not willing to be tested every day - waste of everyone's time and the taxpayer's money as well.

I also have to lie on all those flick and tick declarations so popular now at medical facilities - after this true experience. Going to see my respiratory specialist about my cough - very hard to get appointments, had waited more than 4 months when he said 6 week review. Honestly said I had a cough into the app based questionnaire. Came back "entry refused". I then argued long and loud with the receptionist (who may possibly have had medical qualifications, but probably not), that my cough was the reason for the appointment, was a long standing and well-known condition at this practice, was highly unlikely to be COVID based on my movements and zero COVID in ACT at that time etc etc. She kept telling me I had to leave immediately and get a COVID test and then reschedule. It came to a head when I said I would not leave until a doctor told me I had to, and preferably my own doctor. Meantime, the whole waiting room is getting details of my medical issues, not to mention a free side show. Popcorn was definitely out. Situation was defused by my doctor appearing to call the next patient (not me) and saying "oh I am glad you are here - I have been wondering when you would get around to your appointment as I really need to change some of your medications - sit down, I'll be with you soon." After the third time this happened at medical facilities (going to the GP to follow up said medications, and going for pathology tests relating to the condition), and both of those times I was aggressively and forcibly turned away by people who held the roles of receptionist and security guard, so unlikely to be medically qualified, and even tried to bill me for a missed appointment, I have simply stopped telling the truth. So perhaps one day, I will unwittingly have COVID....

Shouldn’t both of them have been in home quarantine for 14 days after their arrival into WA?
If so should be no exposure sites.

Whether a tourism business needs interstate and or international travel or not, and the proportion that they do, is a key determinant for the viability of particular businesses. For local businesses it can sometime mean quite viable levels still.

I am not in tourism, but I know that corporate CEO's remain very skittish about interstate travel approvals and the news over the last week will now only further increase such company restrictions, which is critical for my particular business, and moreso as international travel was also traditionally was not as important as tome as interstate, was also still a significant source of income. So sadly the recent news means that I have made the decision this weekend to put the business in limbo for at least 6 months, for as a Director I have no other viable choice now. All staff will be stood down in July and all my regular contractors in Qld and NSW, as a lot of my projects are traditionally and the bulk of my business spend is in those two states, will be advised of that on Monday. I am not happy to do so, and especially with my NSW Contractor who I have used for two decades. I am not the only one that uses him, but I know that his business is in hard times.
Sending you great empathy @lovetravellingoz. This is a very hard decision to make, and clearly you have some anguish over being forced to this. I count myself very lucky to have sold the main part of my business that employed 10 staff and 10 contractors in 2017, for a partial retirement plan, so that only Mr Seat 0A and me are currently working in the business. We too have suffered from a lot of lost business due to travel restrictions and limitations on face to face training and consulting activities. Luckily Mr Seat 0A has a contract he can work from home when necessary and I have amused myself with a PhD and a granddaughter. But I have said many, many times how relieved I am to not still be running the business the way it was when we sold the bulk of it - the stress would have killed me. You seem like a warm and caring person, and a good employer, and I hope you are OK. It's not easy.

Sadly it is beginning to look as if by the end of today every state will have closed their borders to every other state. NSW won't close its borders but in practical terms they don't have to as everyone else will have closed to them.

Boggles the mind - a Victorian travelling to the NT caught it in QLD and has spread it to someone in NSW

The NT cases are very concerning. I just want Australia back

Which just shows how pointless our state boundaries are in all of this. We need to be one country again, not a series of parochial fiefdoms.

The way this is going, it won't surprise me if we have another national lockdown.
