The NT cases are very concerning. I just want Australia back 😩
I couldn’t work out whether to put Hugs or Agree - so here is both.

I am feeling really miserable - it was all terrific a few weeks ago and now a total shambles :( :(

I could take people who are delaying/refusing to get vaccinated and just give them a few hard slaps :( :(

Darwin into lockdown.

Apparently a couple of close contacts who were contacted cannot now be reached.
Greater Darwin lockdown Initially for 2 days from 1pm today.

Nt police commissioner says authorities still trying to make initial contact with about 15 identified close contacts in the Top End believed to be camping out bush

Add ATAGI to your hard slap list while you are at it, thanks.

I’ve persisted for months. But now it’s time to press the ignore button as it is getting ridiculous blaming Victoria for absolutely everything including the way NSW choose to report it’s number

Just to be clear,
if someone criticises Dan Andrews - they are not criticising Victoria
if someone criticises the Victorian government - they are not criticising Victoria
if someone criticises a Victorian journalist - they are not criticising Victoria

There is no collective guilt, blame, praise or otherwise of people based on where a political line is drawn around them.
You are not your government.

Seems that of the 900 that were at the mine during the relevant period 220 remain in the NT. 400 to Brisbane & 250 to Perth.

FYI It’s Victoria’s mine, just happens to be in the NT. It’s Victoria’s fault.

Well with news from The Granites seeming to be getting worse, maybe this is the point at which we, as a nation, collectively look in the mirror and tell ourselves to stop hysterically throwing good medicine literally down the drain and start to seriously consider how we live with this virus.

The media is where the blame lies, their poor reporting and complaining is what has resulted in this cough change which means we now get delayed data in NSW. Those reporters who started the complaining were from The Age, SMH laregly rebrands articles from The Age due to staff cuts. Its most obvious when you read Covid Blog on SMH reader comments are mostly from Melbourne, because its actually the Age blog with a change of masthead, so sentiment is largely not that of Sydneysiders.

Its actually surprising that this is first time we have seen cases resulting from FIFO given miners have had freedom of travel that most others have not.

Wonder if there is a case of liability on the Queensland government for causing an otherwise healthy domestic traveller to catch covid from by bizarrely putting him on the same floor as international travellers?
NT chief minister diplomatically refused in media conference to criticise, judge or blame the Qld decisionmaking.

New local case in QLD, believed to be connected to the DFO cluster but wasn't in isolation (it's not actually linked yet).

She works at the Brisbane watchhouse.

Presser at 10am
That's it, New South Wales needs shut down our border with Queensland, the risk of disease transmission is far too high, to say nothing of another OzFest being held in Brisbane (the only thing worse would be holding it in Canberra, a city whose main attraction is a large administrative building).

Joking aside, why on earth are they revealing the identity of this case. I can understand wanting to identify the case location and date but doesn't revealing such information run afoul of privacy laws?
Why the hell is Queensland mixing interstate and international hotel quarantine? Who did the risk assessment on that?
I mean from a risk standpoint they're about the same. Both sets of travellers are coming from areas where there is widespread community transmission of COVID.
No it isnt wrong for Pfizer. Over 40s were able to register for standby list since 3rd week of May (as I did, only qualifier dob) . Then in second week of June this changed to being able to book directly without wait list. And more hospitals have opened up each week.

I was invited to book from wait list in last week of May, patiently waiting for my appointment but friends who were tardier and booked in June at a hospital rather than Olympic Park have got earlier appointments.

If you are over 40 in NSW (in fact every sate and territory) you can absolutely book to get Pfizer now. Walkins are a different matter.
Meanwhile, for AstraZeneca it's a whole other story. If you're willing to get the jab, you can walk up today and get one. I'm still dismayed that the government has done everything in its power to downplay the importance of AstraZeneca, to the point of saying only the elderly who should be put on an ice floe and sent to Antarctica should get it.
Vic has made Canberra an Orange zone - let’s destroy any last bits of tourism that weren’t already dead….
You're absolutely right, having never been to Canberra (and hopefully never having to go there), I can certainly understand the appeal of wanting to get away from the dull dreary landscape that is the greater Canberra area and visit more hospitable climes like Sydney or Melbourne. Heck, I suppose many Canberrans would even stoop to visiting Perth for a week. Anything to avoid having to stare at Parliament House for a week will do! :p

Canberra tourism is taking a bit of a beating due to Sydney people not being allowed to travel here, so this won’t help. :( Yes it will recover. Hope by Floriade everything is OK again.
Respectfully disagree with your assessment. Canberra tourism has taken a beating since Parliament House was there, arguably the only attraction most Australians can think of when having to name something...anything in Canberra! Canberra the only city that makes Perth look good :p

I don't know what the realities are in other states but in W.A the mining companies, in concert with the state government, have been employing very strict measures in regards to FIFO's. Both parties have been very concerned about the chance of something like this happening and put a lot of work in trying to keep the mine sites quarantined from outbreaks.

NSW approach to lockdown seems a fair bit different to Victoria. Most retail stores are still allowed open for trading? (I actually support this approach but just asking in case I have found the wrong information)
In lockdown 2, Essential retail never closed. Everything else went to click and collect, but didn’t close fully.

There’s also the economic dimension. VIC had job keeper NSW doesn’t right now so a lot of really will be in strife if forced to close.

In some states, however walk-ins are not a thing in NSW, you need bookings at state run hubs or GP. AZ is not recommended for under 60s, yes you can go to a GP and ask for it, but why would you if eligible for Pfizer which gets you fully vaccinated much faster?
