Though the fishing, camping and golfing message had been pushed for quite some time and maybe just pushed some beyond breaking point.Then the Victorian CMO admitted that wasn't based on science but they didn't think those things were exercise.
In the link to Super spreader events it has been shown 97% occurred indoors so those activities were not high risk.it also showed indoors that were cold and dry such as meat processing works were higher risk areas.That was known well before Cedar meats cluster occurred.EG in South Dakota by mid april one meat packing firm had become the largest cluster in the USA with 500 employees and 120 family members testing positive.

Yes this has been a known problem since the beginning and in all states. The Tassie healthworker for example most likely had no access to pay or sickleave if they did not work.

Which is why the $1500 payment for those without access to sick leave should have been enacted earlier.

Happening. Woolworths have just announced product limits are being reintroduced in Victoria. Two item limit on lots of staples including TP.

Many of my friends are keen fisherman, campers (especially freecampers) and golfers. While they would have liked their pastimes it would not have caused any of them to breach the rules. Also there are no hotspots amongst these groups who have resumed their pasttimes.

I think it is more:

• low paid workers who are only paid when they work. No paid sickleave
• language difficulties
• strong family bonds
• less spacious dwellings
• greeting practices - not following social distancing
• religious practices of many different faiths
• suspicion of authorities in some immigrant communities

I did post a report on public health laws relating to restaurants in the USA which found that the more severe the laws and the more complicated the law the more likely the law was to be broken.This was from 2019.My observations suggest this probably played some part.
As to the NWRH workers the great majority were full time staff and paid sick leave.

Severity has been the same for all, but yet the spike has mainly been generated by particular demographics. I think this cohort mainly knew the rules despite the language difficulties. This spike has coincided with the relaxing of rules on family gatherings, and so they were pretty quick to react to that. One of the larger clusters involved a doctor.

Being family they then chose to ignore the social distancing, including the doctor. So I don't think they were confused by the rules, they just chose to ignore some pretty simply concepts;

• Don't mix when isolating, especially if you have had a positive test result!.
• Practice social distancing.
• If you have a symptom get tested

Were those that were carrying the CV 19 baton reacting to severe rules? IMO most likely in wanting to keep working in addition to the above.

I think that another factor too was the very low official rate throughout Australia including Victoria making many think that it was all over. So if there was a positive person in your circle, then bang!

PS On the language....even migrants who do not speak english at all still use the internet and mainly have access to it. Rare today is someone without a smart phone.

Sounds like they don’t need more followers but rather leaders. She’s head of our infectious diseases management in SA. Seems to have done the job so far given we had major outbreak in Barossa Valley and Baggage Handlers and Qantas to manage.

If you look at say all the clusters such as the aged care facilities in Vic for example over the last two months they have been shut down. So the known cases generally get shut down. In some recent cases some individuals not isolating when instructed to do so has not been helpful.

The real problem however is the unknown community transmission carriers in the north. Without shutting that supply off it is just playing whack-a-mole . Wiping out the community spread is the real issue.


But yes she is certainly a knowledgeable and experienced person, and so all help is greatly appreciated.

My goodness Channel 7 news, wiping out community spread was never the plan.... Suppression, not elimination.

Suppression allows for a level of community transmission. Which is happening, everywhere.

What we don't know is the magical number of clinically measurable spread the government is prepared to tolerate that won't overwhelm the health system.

What was the highest we got to? About 300 a day I think (correct me). Can’t speak for other states, but I know that with a number like that a huge portion of the NSW public health system was shut down (wards closed, staff stood down) so it was nowhere near capacity.

That could theoretically put the “overrun” limit at more than double that. Obviously there are compounding issues... but given 80% don’t need to go anywhere near a hospital, a daily number of 1000+ would seem to be more than manageable.

The current daily infection rate of 10-20 seems well shy of that... so read into that what you will.

I think it helps those residents in impacted suburbs to ascertain their own personal risks as regards to safety and contacts. And I doubt that everyone in that group would have been advised about that. If there are other impacts re Media well, as an individual that's not an individuals responsibility but own safety is.

From a personal experience I live in a suburb that was significantly impacted by the Baggage Handlers in SA and next door neighbours brother had Covid as one, as did his best friend. She was likewise tested as a Qantas person. The local high school (3 minutes away on foot) was closed as was a local supermarket. Until that cluster was sorted I did not shop locally.

The cluster has been around for several days if not weeks now. Eid celebrations can last for several days.

Renting out our holiday home on Airbnb and Stayz, it's led me to believe some people have little respect for accepted social norms and following rules. Just two examples are a recycling bin full of tubs of feta cheese, flat bread and nappies - more than once, and coals/charcoal used in gas BBQ, which sort of ruins it - again more than once Has happened several times, but only with certain demographics. C'est la vie.
