Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

She is a bit snappy today but give her a break, she’s under a massive amount of pressure and stress.

Anyway at least the numbers came down and the test numbers are still good!

Dr Chants comments around vaccine were good (and unsurprising as we know she shares Prof Sutton’s view on just getting it out there).
I wasn't criticising her - I'm glad she said it.

So many people in "pro-lockdown" states (if we can call it that) bang on about listening to the health advice, but if the health advice in another state is not so keen to lockdown, suddenly "Gladys fails to lockdown" is the headline. So only listen to the health advice if it supports your ideology.

Interesting quote of NSW CHO Dr Chant

So, if you are a close contact, don't think, 'I'm vaccinated or I was really only there for a few minutes,' please follow the health advice, stay in there for the 14 days, get the test, and follow the health advice."

I'm guessing some of those vaccinated at the party are now positive.

Based on what Hazzard just said, I would doubt that. Indeed I think it was the opposite with all those having had one or two doses were all still negative.

I really don’t understand “pro-lockdown” people. Do they just want to stay at home and not work? The great thing about a lockdown is anyone can do it anytime they want - just don’t get out of bed.

Courier Mail quoted Annastacia Palaszczuk as saying she was a "fan" of short-sharp 3 day lockdowns.

Either she doesn't understand what 3 day lockdowns are for, or she has no faith in her contact tracers.

Oh right. Well anyway looks like she was up all night hence the shortness. Hopefully she gives the Feds a kick in National Cabinet today on their woeful performance!

It’s why we continued to visit Ms FM all the way through the nationwide lockdown last year. Emergency Caesar, 6 weeks prem baby, first time mother and she pretty much got dumped as all care went online. Recipe for PND.
We had a similar experience with the birth of our beautiful granddaughter in Canberra last year - 32 hr labour, emergency Caesar, aspirated meconium and then a week in NICU With breathing issues no pneumonia. No visitors allowed but at least both her parents could stay in the hospital with her. But at one point they were planning to transfer the baby to another hospital as her health improved (because the brand new women‘s and children’s hospital in Canberra does not have an intermediate care nursery 😱😱). That would then have meant that only the breastfeeding mother was allowed to visit the baby, but as she had a C-section, she couldn’t drive so someone would have to drive her the 30 mins plus each way for as many feeds as needed every day and hang around outside while that happened. Total recipe for PND. Luckily the baby improved some more and some strong advocacy resulted in a sensible decision to keep the little family together until they were discharged after 10 days. There will be a hidden toll to pay for all this.

Happy to be wrong - the party is now 24/30 attendees are now positive. I recall reading 4 were vaccinated, right?

I am not sure what the number was "for vaccinated attendees at the party.

However note the cases for West Hoxton Birthday Party Cluster is not just those at the party. ie "who acquired it at the party and subsequent contacts

So amongst the subsequent contacts who were not at the party you may well have people who also have had one or two doses.

ABC is also reporting 24/30 at the party, plus 7 subsequent contacts

NSW: More details on those 18 cases of community transmission

The number of people who contracted COVID-19 at a West Hoxton birthday party in Sydney has risen to 24, out of a total of 30 people who attended the party.

A further seven people caught the virus from someone who attended the party.

...

A total of four students at South Coogee public school have tested positive to coronavirus.

Every student from the school is now considered a close contact and is required to be in isolation for 14 days.

Five new cases have also been linked to the Great Ocean Foods wholesaler in Marrickville, bringing the total connected to the store to 16.

Either she doesn't understand what 3 day lockdowns are for, or she has no faith in her contact tracers.
Or she doesn’t realise that people don’t get paid, unlike her good self.

Bondi cluster is now 124 out of 130 cases since 16 June 2021.

Surely must have passed Thai Rock cluster as NSW's biggest covid cluster.

More NSW Health details in the link below

Edit: just found on NSW Health that Thai Rock got to 114 in just under 4 weeks.

Bondi is 124 in just under 2 weeks.

Gladys pretty much rules out asking to reducing HQ caps. "States with much smaller caps still have outbreaks".

Surprised and not surprised at the same time.

Not surprised given her mindset is to keep NSW open, and seems to be happy with NSW taking majority of the load.

Surprising that she did not use this opportunity to request reducing numbers, forcing other states to increase their intake.

Dr Chants comments around vaccine were good (and unsurprising as we know she shares Prof Sutton’s view on just getting it out there).

Where has Dr Chant encouraged giving AZ to under under 50s? She has encouraged those who already had first dose to get the second, she has not at the daily pressers pushed for younger people to get AZ. She has pushed for more Pfizer to be made available (including via GPS, but I preferred Gladys' request for another commonwealth mass vaccination centre).

Not surprising, since we already know the WA case was partially vaccinated and is positive. So if some of the party goers were also only partially vaccinated then just as likely they are also positive. There were 4 fully vaccinated people there - those are what we need to watch (and find out which vaccine they had)
