Thet arrive on a Medevac flight paid for by themselves and approved by state and Feds

Where overseas arrivals have been allowed in country to visit dying relatives, states have on several occasions authorized them leaving HQ early and chartering flights (not allowed to drive or take public flights) to undertake urgent supervised love one visit in full PPE.

The two most recent examples we have heard of (due to the media coverage re the extended time Qld and Vic took to approve the travel from SYD) all of the people had been fully vaccinated, but im not sure that is a criteria for compassionate domestic charters?

The lady who arrived in Sydney this week form NYC to see her father who was in palliative care in Melbourne after having a stroke, was having trouble affording the charter and Angel Flight donated their services.

Wonder if it was something like this? And just unfortunate the people were positive (so likely return to HQ).

I don't think it matters re link. Why on earth would this have been approved?
It matters because the media were clearly trying to infer that the current cases are attributed to the family from SE Asia. They are just looking for a headline. To the best of my knowledge the current cases are from the one family related to the miners and have been in isolation so it should negate the need for a lockdown but who knows with the cop in charge

So the SA positive miner and his family transited in ASP airport causing Alice Springs to close down. Four cases in community in SA - miner link. First community transmission in over 200 days - but NO lockdown! Apologies Nicola. Wife and children also positive and now in dedicated Covid hotel. They’ve been isolating since before negative test.

NSW hospitals from NSW press conference, reported by news.com.au

Multiple NSW hospital wards have been sent into lockdown after a student nurse tested positive to Covid-19.

The 24-year-old is believed to have worked at the rehabilitation wards at Fairfield Hospital and the and a cardiology and a general abdominal surgery ward at the Royal North Shore Hospitals during her infectious period.

Those wards have now been locked down as authorities rush to conduct contact tracing.

It is not clear if the student nurse was vaccinated.

"We know that the student nurse worked whilst infectious on a number of days, and obviously immediately our health team swung into action," chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant.

"So the wards that that staff member worked at have been locked down, so that’s not taking any additional patients.

"We have also followed up any patients that have been discharged from those wards. We are also arranging testing for any staff that may have come in contact.

"I’m pleased to say that to date the tests have been negative, but it’s much too early to tell, whether we will have any transmission and we have taken a very broad, infectious period because of our concern about the vulnerability of health care settings."

No lockdown for SA. 5 new local cases.

The cases as mentioned have linked to the mine, and the family subsequently positive, they're now in the Positive Medi Hotel here. They've been home quarantining since Saturday. As have the other 28 miners. Apparently he returned Saturday awaiting test, he was isolating when rules changed and it became a requirement, so sounds like they won't have been out and about.

Additional restrictions in place - reducing home gatherings to 10.
Strong recommendation in public to wear a mask.
Where possible, work from home is recommended where social distancing is difficult and WFH practical.

Edit - some good questioning from one senior journo (who's name escapes me), pressing the "why are we even talking lockdown and restrictions" given zero community commission.

Wonder if they'll change it back to 14. SIN changed to 21 a few months ago but have just changed it back to 14, presumably on the basis of data about the variants and the data of those testing positive between days 14 and 21 over the period it sat at 21.
A friends mother returned to Hong Kong from the UK about 4 weeks ago. She did 14 days hotel quarantine then 7 days at home. She just scraped in as Hong Kong is banning all flights from the UK again from 5th (?) July. They actually have a formula based on the number of positives arriving within a certain time period.

Chris Kenny? Anchor for Sky News, previous advisor & COS for various liberal governments (SA and Federal)

Happens to be on holidays in Adelaide, I believe he normally presents from their Sydney Studio (has SA roots)

SA Premier ran away from that one :)

But again compared to the circus of QLD this one seems sane.

This was a great question that left Marshall so keen to run off the dais. Hope it gets replayed. Over and over again.

Snap.

Now he’s tackled St Nicola on her elimination strategy.

Chris Kenny - that's the man. Was having a complete mental blank (which is shameful given he was a PR colleague of my dear mother back in the day.

Great to see some firm questions rather than the usual hysterics.

I think the other reporters are taking his queue. Getting slammed!

Journos reflect the mood I think... the public is completely over lockdowns. It’s gone from begrudging compliance to real anger about the situation.

All the press conferences have been tough on the people answering the questions. Some of course have handled them better than others 😂

One new case in WA overnight. Had been at the same gym as the initial two cases and had been in isolation. I gather he was self isolating before the lockdown and is not believed to have been infectious when in the community.

Also a record day in WA for vaccinations yesterday at local clinics.

SA ones have been tame and the journalists just asking annoying irrelevant questions meant the journalists were easily dismissible. This one this morning with Kenny was a ripper but they shut him down. Many Comments on FB reflected that he was asking the questions they wanted answers.

Wait for the criticism of Murdoch media on the socials - it was only when Rachel Baxendale and then Peta Credlin turned up at Dan's pressers that hard questions were asked.

Nice to hear someone doing the right/common sense thing on their own accord.

A confirmation that the new case in WA had tested negative before going into 'quarantine' and only tested positive a few days later.

Some of the hard questions. I think Rachel Baxendale executed herself well and asked a range of difficult questions, and continues to do so.

But it was obvious what Peta Credlin was there for. IMHO, she was mainly focused on looking for a smoking gun, and really went down a rabbit hole. Looking back (with the benefit of hindsight), 12 months later, the decision to use private security - which was so much of a focus - meant that other problems were largely glossed over. It's quite evident that problems ran deep in DHHS - ranging from infection control procedures, contractor supervision, staff culture, speed of acting on data, contract tracing capabilities, poor IT systems, so much was wrong. Yet most of the journalists (including Peta) seemed to gloss over them in their quest to determine, essentially, whether the Premier made the decision around employing private security. If any other of a range of processes had been in place, it would not have mattered that private security was used.

Speaking of 'journalists', I just caught up with what Jon Faine has been up to - and the article that the Age published and what he wrote about NSW & their outbreak. I hadn't realised Faine was on the Vic Govt's payroll! And he wanted to do the 'Welcome back Dan' interview. Blimey.
