Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

The real reason for Andrews suddenly withdrawing the request for 1000 from the ADF (now abt 200) would be interesting to know. Smacks of lobbying by someone ... Vic Police? (who will now do the hotel monitoring), or some group who didn't like the 'look' of the army being around? During the NW Tas outbreak, the Tas Premier welcomed the EDIT: Army ADF in and the community was sorry to see them go. I would have thought in such a complex situation - several metropolitan areas - you couldn't have too many bodies on the ground. Surely Vic Police have their regular duties to attend to, rather than guarding quarantine?

Well, the Defence Minister was saying things like 'they will accompany Police on patrol' and the Chief Commissioner of Police had to squash that very quickly. He noted that ADF personnel had no authority other than 'moral authority'.

The Police union said they didn't have a problem as long as the ADF focused on their area of expertise. I.e. testing.

I wonder if the cost of the ADF personnel for their deployment to Victoria and a 14 day quarantine afterwards came into play?

And I am amazed at the various media commentators who say ADF and only refer to Army. The Australian Defence Force comprises the Navy, Army and AirForce. The three services all have trained personnel who can perform the tasks required during the pandemic.

Hardly surprising. Murdoch still lives.
Actually I didn't find the report surprising given how the virus has spread amongst those whose primary job was to ensure it didn't. It wasnt like they were surrounded by high viral load like first responders are.

There was a suggestion (rumor) on media this morning that this may have been the case (including that of 14 days quarantine at the end).

Spoken like a true ALP fan 😝

Why are you an ALP fan?

I think it’s case by case... we have an ALP government in QLD we are more than happy to get rid of shortly if you’d like one :)

Anyway, a fan or not it’s pretty easy to see ingrained bias still in media.

Nope, I despise the ALP.
It’s funny though as I work in a highly unionised industry and I love how easily Murdoch triggers most of them. Hardly a day goes by without one of my co-workers sooking about Murdoch’s right wing propoganda 😂

The Australian is rather scathing of the manner in which quarantine has not been handled in Victoria.

Well I am scathing too ....but I would not be relying on The Australian without fact checking. Yesterday they had it that the Coburg Cluster was fuelling the outbreak, rather that the reality that it was just one of many clusters.

ie The North Melbourne family cluster, or the Wollert outbreak which doesn't suit the Boltesque journos as it includes cases at a catholic school, or the other clusters that include other schools.

You are? We never would have picked that up through your 487 posts over the last day on it 😂 :p

The stale odour of Ideology seems to pervade many decisions made during this Pandemic .
Someone may eventually write an interesting summary of the cause and effect relationship of political principle over common sense during these difficult times.

I didn't read it that they were blaming Coburg for fuelling all the hot spots. Just that it was fuelling the one they referred to.

If written from an apolitical point of view it would be valuable.

Both sides of politics deserve to have their actions (and inaction) honestly scrutinised and analysed.

I think it’s well past time for Health Authorities to stop releasing positive tests on returned travellers in quarantine.

Fully agree and I have been saying that for a while, or at least that the numbers should be reported completely seprately. Both here and in NZ.

Yesterday's tests in Vic were released as 33. 10 ended up being returned travellers. So real cases is 23.

Today's Vic total is 30. 5 so far are known to be travellers. With 13 cases under investigation , the traveller total may yet rise (ie yesterday the final rose to 10 after being shown as 7 initially in the morning).

PS. There are still about a million people overseas who have the right to return to Oz. So there well could be more Aussies overseas who have had CV19, than those who have not been overseas since Dec 2019.
