Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Have they got the ability to perform on the spot tests?

Yes, at least in some places. They have a van or a bus visiting neighborhoods and people are escorted from their homes by the door knockers to the point in the street where its parked.

Just had the door knockers, the closest testing place is the hospital several kilometres away. The hospital has been testing since the beginning so nothing to tell. If they were actually offering the test I would've had it and happily isolated until I got the results.

I'm not going to drive and wait in a line for several hours, Especially during work hours.

And yes I'm in a designated hot spot. Still working from home which is fortunate.

Seems like the doorknocking is a pointless exercise? A missed opportunity really.

Pretty much the same thing my friend said.
I forgot to ask her but is there any timeframe or requirement to get tested and do they follow up?
Not having a go at you because you are obviously working from home but wonder how many others just go stuff it, I can’t be bothered and still head off to work/school etc tomorrow

Whenever I’ve seen them doing tests they’re in the full PPE gear. The door knockers are not dressed for that, But by the look of it I think they were keeping notes in the addresses and possibly making some notes to say whether they were home or not to get the message to go get tested.

Or maybe some don't even know they are in a risk area and they'd like information to make an informed decision?

Think about how unlikely that is. Every phone in the area was sent text messages yesterday. There are signs by the side of roads. There are mobile installations of health teams at ovals and grounds. There's radio, tv, print and online coverage.

None what so ever. It was just a pointless waste of time.

They didn't take any details nor do they even know my exact address having met them at the front of my block.

No PPE apart from one of them wearing a handkerchief over their face.

I wasn't. And I've received localised texts previously.

Fair enough, that is what was reported though:

Testing text messages are being sent out

Dr van Diemen highlighted the text messages being sent to people in hotspots to encourage them to be tested.

The testing is open to those who are symptomatic and asymptomatic.

So the report is that 30% of people in Victoria in hotel quarantine refused to get tested. In the SMH today, they say that it’s 2% refusal in Sydney. That’s quite a difference.

Never assume anything. Like people having mobiles. Our next door neighbour got his first one just last week. My mum never had one and she was around just four years ago. And as HVR just posted, he didn't even get the text.

And zero in SA.

I'm not assuming anything, I am pointing out that this sort of effort and cost to not compel anyone to test on top of previous efforts will at best inform a very small number of people who did not know about the situation. It's disappointing for those of us in Metro Melbourne who felt this was perhaps an opportunity to avoid another flare up. There is very little currently stopping this from spreading to surrounding areas. Whats your point, @Pushka?

That’s quite a difference.

Can only imagine it's in the script they use.

Tell someone its voluntary and if they test positive they might be kept longer - 30% refuse

Tell someone they need the test so they can be confident they don't infect friends and family - 2%

The claim in this morning's presser was that many of the objections were for young children as parents did not want them subjected to the swab tests, and that it is expected the new saliva tests will reduce that rate of objection. This may or may not be what drives a number like that, but I wonder how that then compares with the NSW's 2%. Either way, there's now a 10 day penalty if you refuse testing on the 11th day in Victoria.

Smells of pure spin, which is to be expected from this Victorian government as they are simply the experts at it.

Assuming that everyone got the text? That anything is worth trying. And they simply don’t have the manpower to test on the spot and reach as many as possible. That maybe they used people who are multi lingual to reach as many as possible but who are not medically trained to take specimens?
