However there is another event that also may explain a number of the increase in Texas. The elephant in the room.George Floyd died on 25/6.

The elephant seems to be in your head rather than in the room.

"How would they know?" can hardly be considered persuasive evidence.

LOCKDOWN THE NT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😂 :p 😂 :p
People are going to be understandably nervous but government's have to be careful not to overreact or this economic catastrophe will....well, somehow it will get worse.

Another 77 in Victoria today, none of those from hotel quarantine. Victorian CHO has said that the majority are within the "hot zones"...

And a human trial vaccine being started in Adelaide today. From FMC. These people got quite far down the track developing SARS vaccine. If successful then it will be a minimum of 6 months. Production started in anticipation I believe.

Australia has just move through the 8000 mark for number of cases with over 4700 of those cases from overseas.

Well I’m not sure how that is evidence to the contrary. The article I posted is a portion of the information, it does not say that it is “contrary“ to everything else. As the American States all have different figures it needs to be looked at more closely than just a couple of overall dates.
Reading the full article generally helps rather than relying on a heading and subheading.
I have read the full article.I don't wish to change my thoughts. With the BLM protests it does rely on one date for all US States so a lot easier to pinpoint rather on many different lock down reversal dates. And if you do look at new per day cases of every US state it is not uncommon to see an uptick at the beginning of June.
But as I sais that still means there is more than one reason for the increase.

And p-and-t I was responding to a post about black lives matter protest so it was relevant.

Its more nuanced than that. The DHHS are putting those without the means to appropriately quarantine at home (such as those living with others or elderly family) in hotels as well. I know this because a local hotel recently notified on facebook that it had a block booking of rooms for DHHS for several months now for this purpose.

Yes. I am sure it is more nuanced. But the point is that someone coming from NZ is deemed to much of a risk/ can’t be trusted to self isolate even though the chance of them testing positive is minuscule, whilst those already in our community who have actually tested positive are trusted to self isolate at home, which evidently some can not be trusted, as they continue to go about their daily lives.

Well we could allow people from NZ in, but they'd still have to serve 2wks quarantine going back, so it wouldn't really help much.

Far simpler to have an outright ban.

Yea totally we should keep everything shut, no exceptions, no other possibility, heaps easier, simpler, won't be any consequences, all good

Brad Hazzard, NSW Health Minister, giving a press conference now. He explained that NSW Health officials now at Sydney airport and Central Station to meet flights / trains from Melbourne.

He reported that one person from Melbourne was feeling unwell yesterday, got tested for COVID and then got the XPT train to Sydney arriving this morning and told NSW health officials they still felt unwell.

It is idiots like this that will lead to border closures.

Not having ago at you, but hope Vic Health are focussed on the other numbers apart from the majority. Majority is not really comforting, especially if it’s only 51%. If it’s like 80-90%, we might feel a bit better that things are under control.

They really should be getting ahead of this and saying are there another suburbs/LGA with say 5 or more, and maybe these areas are now close to hotspot.

I’m not sure trusted is the right word. I think it’s a case of the rule makers not being brave enough to create new rules for domestic spikes and being comfortable that the rule for overseas arrivals (which has been established for months now) is generally working (save Vic), so don’t change it. We wouldn’t want another Ruby Princess (and don’t forget they were assessed as low risk and going to NZ)!!

Good that NSW Health is being proactive....just no way to check cars.....sigh.

My point really wasn’t about allowing NZ travellers in, but about how ridiculous it is that people testing positive are trusted to self isolate at home - when it seems they can’t be trusted to do so. A number of countries with low levels of infection actually take people testing positive to isolation facilities. But I don’t think that sits well in liberal democracies, other than those who have been overseas.

But it flies in the face of sensible risk management that you lock up travellers from low risk countries - who in all likelihood do not have the virus (instead of allowing them to self isolate) and in fact probably increase their risk of contracting the virus by being in such a facility - and allow those who are confirmed to have the virus to roam free just because they aren’t naughty overseas travellers!

So silly/selfish - you wonder what they think? Better do this trip quickly before my results come back?

So what I don't understand is, why did they bother with taking the test before they travelled? If I was wanting 😡 to somehow 'defeat' the system I wouldn't do the test but simply travel.

Um, if you dumb enough to travel when you know you not supposed to, you are probably dumb enough to do a lot of other things sensible and responsible people wouldn't.

Beats me......I suppose it is possible that they thought they were doing the right thing by taking the test, but honestly did not believe it was anything other than a cold, so they weren’t doing any harm.

NSW only deployed NSW Health at Sydney Central Station this morning as the Vic postcode lockdown only started at midnight. Their deployment was not advertised in advance. I expect the simpler explanation is that the person concerned didn't expect to get caught.

Most people in our society are law-abiding but there is a small element that couldn't care less. Apparently that is why we need prisons.
