Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Same with GB

I have zero sympathy for GB. This is entirely on her.

She lost me when her strategy was simply advising people to "Exercise Common Sense". The writing was on the wall months ago!

Say what you want about Dan, and I'm not a massive fan, but at least the rules are fairly clear cut when VIC puts the foot down.

This thread jumped the shark thousands of posts ago. I'm surprised much of the commentary here still gets by the AFF rules, much of it is as political as you can get without being political. And more divisive than many of the now banned political threads ever were. The only reason I stick is the occassional factual post about "Australian Reports of the Virus Thread", but even these are getting drowned in repetitive posting of the same stuff again and again and again.

Well, sorry, but I don’t really know what you’d expect? This is a frequent flyer forum. This issue is having a significant impact on that. It’s not the public who politicized this issue. We’re living in a bizarre world where the country has been split up into multiple little colonies that each seem to have different goals and views that significantly impact on the lives of people in this forum. You’re right, we could all just shut up and say “thank you government”, but that would make for a rather boring discussion forum, don’t you think?

Say what you will about Victoria, compliance in Melbourne is nowhere even close to what it was earlier this year or this time last year. Roads are very busy. Parks were full. Cafes had lines of 15+ people at every single one I passed on my bicycle in Port Melbourne and St Kilda this morning.

Actually it’s often the converse of that.
eg. The health advice is that people are better off going to a large tertiary hospital when they have their stroke/ myocardial infarction/ cancer treatment but the fall out from closing the tiny cottage hospital and consolidating the care is a political minefield so it gets ignored.
Not always. Look up the WHO Monica study released early 90's. Compared Teaching hospitals with nearby rural CCU's
Included the Hunter region. The rural CCU had a significantly better survival rate. Modesty forbids me to say who set up the rural CCU.

There are various thread discussing the different aspects of the impact on frequent flyers and travel.of COVID. This thread is about spread of the virus, but it has descended into petty arguments of people with rigid views. It extremely repetitive and probably the most unpleasant AFF thread that I've read for some time.

It seems police patience might be running out. Some time during the week a picture was posted of 'coffee crowds' outside the Botanical Hotel in South Yarra in Melbourne. Today the police were out in force and issued fines for people congregating while 'exercising'. Well publicised on the news tonight so that should put an end to it.

Ignore a couple of posters and you will find the thread changes for the better ;)

Highly doubtful a little PR puffery is going to change much now. It’s all over the place, everywhere.

I suspect it’s out of the bottle in Melbourne now.

I’d say people in SA are very compliant. Masks on maybe 99% of people. No community transmission for 3 weeks and the last one reported was in iso anyway. But any day I expect we will record a positive case.

What a great place we're in

I’ve been watching on the sidelines after having decided to no longer participate in Covid discussions here.

I’ve had enough watching what is basically CARP.

I will be unwatching from now. Too many people pretending to be “experts”, looking through a crystal ball and 20/20 hindsight opinions, spouting quotes and links that support one side of another without really looking at the evidence.

I’ll just go back to the hospital Covid coalface where the real “reality” is.

I won’t be replying to private messages about this topic either…
I’ve come to that same conclusion myself in the past couple of days. It had a place in being a good consolidation of information but quickly descended into oneupmanship, doomsaying and the petty bickering about who’s Premier is better, and why what Melb in the past did is so much better than anything that will come after.

I get it, a part of coping mechanisms is the need to have someone to blame and that plays out strongly here. The only thing to blame here is a highly infectious disease that will find a way around every single measure put in its way.

I also get that trying to be in control of information in this thread and the conversation is also a way of being in control of something when we’ve had to give up being able to control so many other aspects of our lives.

But it is not healthy to be spending more than a short time in this thread and others like it every day.

And you will always find singular examples to suit an agenda.
So you didn't like my proven real life examples in the same way as other innocent line in my post for some strange reason. And prefer to just ignore them.
Fair enough, may be its better to stay oblivious to unpleasant facts - its personal choice and we all entitled to that!

Ive provided you with countless facts, and I’m sorry they don’t fit your agenda in regards to the “Chinese Virus” (your term). I wish you all the best.

Yep, only a matter of time. People are very compliant and it’s nice being out tonight in the City having a good meal after attending the football last night and today but in the back of my mind I know it’s only a matter of time

I think the Chant issues might have started a little while back when reporters asked questions about her pay, in that Brad and Dominic who wanted her pay cut. Was very awkward when that was asked. You could sense the tension among the ministers and Chant.

Now if that was me I’d be out of there too.

The way in which this lockdown was announced without any sort of press conference is certainly going down like a lead balloon.
90% of the state (by population) was already locked down. It was acknowledged that people might not know so there is a 24 hour leeway for enforcement. Will be backed up by the 1100 tomorrow.

Even if there was a press conference, that doesn't make it any more visible to people in rural communities on a Saturday afternoon.
