Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Can someone explain how you do a pub crawl in Melbourne during a lockdown? It's not the first time he's said that, and I don't get how that works.

When Gladys said this it was the point that I lost it:

"There is a difference between a lockdown and restrictions. We will need to live with restrictions so long as Delta is around. So long as Delta has a presence in the world, even if we had zero cases and we were at 80% double dose, you would still have to respect rules that exist around vaccinations, around social distancing, around mask-wearing, so long as Delta and deadly Covid is around, we will always need to live with a measure of restriction."

No. Just no.
So you don't want to wear masks and be 1.5m wherever possible when double dosed?

I still worry for the ineligible to be vaccinated children.

Victorian 9pm-5am curfew. Kicks in at midnight tonight, but requested from 9pm.

On Vic CHO recommendation.

People buying take-away, but not actually taking it away and consuming it outside. Then moving to a different take away. Rinse and repeat.
In Richmond there are many pubs near one another. Someone posted a map linking them, and then people then went from one to the other not in spirit of the rules. And then lingering at each also not in spirit of the rules. Talking in groups breaching the rules.

Mask rules now amended that masks cannot be removed outdoors to drink alcohol.

Andrews talks about doing the hard work so this can be over.

Might've heard that before. Doubt the scare mongering is going to achieve much this time.

No I don't sorry. Not wanting to sound heartless but something has to give eventually. I'm not speaking about now, but in the future.

Not if the benchmark is "while Delta still exists", as we won't be able to get rid of it ever now.

That's the nature of an endemic virus. And quite frankly the "won't somebody think of the children" argument can't be used to stop all freedoms indefinitely.

Surely that was against the rules already.

So again, 7 deaths in NSW all in people eligible to be vaccinated however chose not to be.

I am very fast running out of sympathy. It seems we are continuing these draconian lockdowns purely to protect those who have chosen not to be vaccinated. Aren’t even the lockdown lovers advocating for restriction removals when 70/80% have been offered the vaccine?

More or less agree. I, like almost everyone else, have followed the rules to the best of my ability and capability. Booked and received vaccinations the minute I was regarded as eligible by the Victorian government. Unfortunately it seems like none of the sacrifices we as a people made over the past 18 months have earned anything. Feel like I am pretty much done, as much as I would still like to believe.

I know the above isn't quite true but I am just frustrated now. About to start 3 weeks of annual leave, and I won't even be able to go for my usual late night walk & podcast time. Sigh.

All of the sacrifices made over the last 18 months have made an impact - they have helped contain the spread of the virus, particularly when we didn't have a widespread vaccination program, or sufficient number vaccinated. The ones now are still making a difference, slowing the spread of the virus. Without the restrictions - if everyone was out doing a pub crawl - we'd be in a much worse situation.

It's just sad to me that otherwise (allegedly...) intelligent people who are in government fail to see that continuing to laud the majority while punishing the majority leads to people losing interest and not listening to what you are saying.

So Victoria locks down to prevent a "Sydney style lockdown", but by the end of August they will have done six weeks lockdown to Sydney's nine. Looks like a "Sydney style lockdown" without the cases.

What is does show is that lockdown is not solution number 1 to this virus anymore. Worked well as a policy last year, but not sustainable anymore. I'd like to think that if the governments are so worried about hospitals overcrowding, they might have I don't know... boosted capacity in the past 18 months....

Dan did state that they are reviewing liquor licenses etc of the venues involved

Nothing stopping you buying alcohol from Dan Murphys or Liquorland and doing the same thing.

Where's the enforcement on the streets? It's a bit hard to hide a "pop up beer garden" as he calls it. And from my experience, those things get noisy.
